Well if you've got a few hundred or more in your pocket, you'll outbid me.
I'd like to get there myself and maybe pick up a few burls if they are cheap enough, just to play with for box lids and such.

Anyone going?
I'm looking at 4,55,60A and 100. Anyone have a stab in the dark at what I should expect to pay for them?

Was planning to , but not sure now. My mate who was coming with me is now in hospital struggling for life and breath. Lung cancer. Gave up the fags ten years ago, but obviously 20-30 years too late. Only 60 too, younger than me, (and I was gonna leave my tools to him, might have to find another victim now)

I made the trip from Melbourne, up and back in the same day as I had to get back in time for a dinner party. From memory the toolbox went for just above $1200. Burl slices 40mm thick 800mm in diameter wet from between $80 and $260. Whole burls, went for the same. Beautifully finished furniture, Burl slice top (1000mm to 1200mm in diameter) on a Mallee stump went for $6-900 but unfinished Burl slices (of the same size) went for the same. There was reserves on all items with some of the furniture having a reserve of $7000 and others higher.
I can be corrected but I consider there weren't bargains with most items going for above retail! I could see at times the owner couldn't believe how high the pieces were going for and started giving timber to the frequent buyers. The only cheap pieces were either hollow or had a reasonable amount of dry rot in them. There were some cheaper pieces, based on a per kg rate but they were so big no one could transport unless they had a large truck. There were a couple of furniture making companies attending, they bid on everything that was any good and walked past the lower quality pieces for the hobbyists to fight over.
It was a good sale for the owner and a nice 660k drive.Last edited by P1w2; 18th October 2017 at 05:17 PM. Reason: correction
