Lot 03 - 0.2 m³ Cubes of She Oak (Casuarina)

This is the next Lot 03 of 0.2 cubes of She Oak (Casuarina). Salvaged and cut 4 years ago and been under cover ever since.

Its a mix of boards most are 150mm x 50 x 1600mm a few wider two are only 90mm.

The pile is roughly 600 wide x 210 high and 1600 long.

Asking $600 for the lot pick up from Traralgon 3844.

No reasonable offer refused.

I have 2.5 cubes of very thick English Oak and 1 cube of very thick Claret Ash up for sale. Plus more then a few exotics like Cuban Mahogany, Manchurian Pear, Slabs of Lebanese Cedar, Holly and Elm.

Come on down bring the trailer and load on up.

Are you sure that this is She-Oak (Casuarina)?

Looks more like Silky Oak (Grevillea Robusta)

That was my wood ID from the photos, definitely not a "she oak" that I have seen.

I have SheOak in my stash, and it doesn’t look anything like the photos. Looks more like Silky Oak to me.

It looks exactly like the local She Oak / Casuraina we get around here in the coastal scrub in Sth Gippsland.
Ive cut up a couple of them . Made these chisel handles from it. It does look like silky Oak. And its not the hard heavy She Oak like you sometimes see with the larger Medullary rays. Maybe they are inland dessert types? Nice stuff though.

Given that there are 61 species of Allocasuarina and 15 species of Casuarinas currently listed it very possible that our impressions are incorrect.

there is mostly Sheoak in the pile (creamy-white timbers) vs the one or two boards of the more pinky-orange Silky Oak that I see in the photos. Below are some known location harvested examples of both timbers.

Today I had a member come down from Ballarat and pick up a dozen assorted boards for a few projects.

I think instead of trying to sell these timbers a single lot it is best to sell it piece meal for a slightly higher cubic meter price.

So if you need some timber for your next project and do not mind a trip to the country, come on down to Traralgon. First in best dressed as they say.
