For those who have a burning need these slabs would fill, the prices really are probably pretty good, but for me and I suspect many others, buying them for some as yet unthought of future project, it's probably a bit costly to have sitting around until that day comes.

Last slabs I bought was an English Oak 3000 x 600 x 100 (paid $50!), and a bunch of 3600 x 450 x 50 Cypress for $100 ea. I know they aren't a good comparison as they were ridiculously cheap but that's pretty much my buying limits.

Although I did pay $300'ish for a 3000 x 200 x 50 of the Ancient Redgum that was offered here a while back.

    cheers, Ian

If i was close enough to collect i would offer $500 for both. A lot of labor would go into turning these slabs into a saleable products so i think $800 is a tall order to start from.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've just passed them on to the owner. I've suggested he reduce the prices accordingly. They are a couple of really nice slabs and if I had the room and the spondooly I'd buy them myself. He bought them from a NSW miller at the Melb Working With Wood exhibition about 5 or 6 years ago.
    Cheers

The back slab almost makes a table. Is the middle slab also Silky and is it for sale?

If only this was in Brisbane, I'd have that Mahogany for sure!

If it helps the sale - the Mahogany is about $3,500/m3 and the Silky Oak around $3,700/m3, happy to be corrected but those sound like pretty fair prices.

There's no middle slab. what you're seeing is the outline of another slab which was resting against it.

    Default Price Calculation

Based on the m3 price quoted by Alky, the Silky Slab comes in at $310 and the Mahogany comes in at $170. Which all means that my mate paid way too much 5 years ago at the Melb WW Show. $700 for the Silky Oak and $400 for the Mahogany.

Hmmmm - I wonder who he could have bought them from?

Around that time I was not buying much timber at the shows because everything was overpriced.
I got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

It was a bloke from NSW from memory. I bought some Australian cedar which I thought was over-priced but was in need of for a rush job.
