Partial Roubo split top bench for sale
Hi all,
I've got some old Oregon timber that I've been working on (even started a thread about it) to make myself a Roubo inspired split top bench for my workshop.
This Oregon was extracted out of an older house that used them for roof exposed beams so is pretty decent as far as dimensions of Oregon go these days. I have managed to rough cut it down to approx length for each component of the build. We have decided at the end of this year to make a move so taking stock of what i have in my shed to go up north i didn't want to build this too big and heavy to get out the door come sale time and i don't want to drive it up north where i have a whole other stock pile of timber to use.
So I've decided to list this partial bench build for someone to take over and enjoy themselves. Ive tried to take photos of each part with measuring tape and you could imagine there's a fair bit of weight to these pieces now they are laminated.
It still needs work, dressing all round to your final dimensions but I've thrown a tail vice in for someone that wishes to have one, my intention was to have a Benchcrafted or similar style face vice hence the large angled piece you'll see in the photos. i wanted that heavy front vice so a solid piece of Oregon was good enough for me. Yes it has some surface cracks it is to be expected for this age of timber but its all superficial and the parts i have planed with my smoother have come up beautiful. i was going to just have it as a feature or worst case put some dovetail keys if needed.
Roughly the dimensions are roughly as
Bench top - 1800mm long x 130mm thick x 350 each top section x 2, with the tool holder laminate in the center i was going to have it approximately 750mm wide
Legs are 900mm high x 130 x 90 each x 4 of them
long stretchers are 1200mm long x 110 x 45
short stretchers are 610mm long x 110x 45
Vice Jaw is 90mm thick x 900long x 240mm approx wide. The matching piece in the photo under the vice is an extra piece i was considering swapping out a leg for so its a matching leg for the vice to hold the scissor cross slider thing from Benchcrafted
Happy to answer any questions you may have and also its technically located in NSW but Murrumbateman is just 20mins north of Northside of Canberra so i can bring it in the ute if need be for the new owner. Apologies i couldn't clean it up more for the photos but if you find the thread of how i originally picked them up i think you'll see what i've done so far is still an improvement
Im asking $600 for the lot for pickup or a little extra for me to lug this beast and deliver somewhere local. This covers the cost of what i paid for the materials which were just raw beams and the free vice which was $80 and hasn't been installed, not accounting for my time getting those 6" nails out or getting it all to the size its at now

Cheers,
Nathan

Due to the size of this Im not going to be taking it north with me. If there's a tool swap or something that someone has in mind and in need of a bench project like this just let me know.
