Selling Advice Sought Only at this point.
Advice only sought - no listing at this stage, & not my timber.
I have been asked for advice on how to move on a parcel of timber, some 1.5 to 2 cum of quite good quality timber. No tally available at this stage. The owner's preferred option is to sell it as one parcel.
It is a mix of two high quality slabs, a few good wide boards of quarter cut silky oak, some narrow kwilia / merbau (?) decking boards, with the bulk being new guinea rosewood 200 x 50 x 2.4m probably 25 - 30 or more boards. (ish) skip dressed with nice consistent honey colour. Its been stored well for many years, decades I'm told.
I've personally viewed the timber, itis a quality parcel with very little degrade. I would love to purchase the slabs and NSO but not all of the lot. The owner is insistent on selling as one lot. Its priced competitively, not a bargain mind you. The bonus for me is its on my doorstep, almost, well its local at least.
Taking my own personal interests out of the equation I mentioned that as it is a varied lot the potential purchasers would face a similar conundrum to my own. Those interested in say the NGR, won't want the decking etc. So, any purchaser is faced with - What to do with the rest!
Too large a lot for hobbyists, not worth the hassle for a commercial door maker etc.

Here's an idea, if you're keen on helping this person out. Please bear in mind this is likely to need admin approval, as I think it will effectively constitute a "group buy".
Get more info & photos, agree with them a total value for all the timber. Split that reasonably (and transparently) up between the various "classes" of timber. Make the split publicly known, so there can be no "finger-pointing".
List it up here, and see if a conglomerate of woodies here will combine to buy the lot - yourself included for items you may want too.

Its not hard to move those sort of quantities if you know the market. My first question is price? Closely followed by the tally? Without these it becomes a stab in the dark.

That is the reason I became (more) involved. Initially the species description I was given was along the lines "we think its rosewood."
They have a price. Species? Tally? - not being timber people I feel they did a Gumtree search, eyeballed the stack and picked a nice round figure. I did a few mental sums on site, so the price is probably fair imo. I will confirm wholesale pack price for NGR tomorrow hopefully to gain a better appreciation of pricing.Mobyturns

E-go.com.au do a bulk-pallet price for large/heavy items.
Its slow, like an elephant, but its reliable and cheap. Tracking is basic.
They offer Depot-to-depot and depot-to-address. Obviously the D2D is super cheap. The discounts are heavy and one does not pay the truck, fork or end-delivery fees.
They will use their forklift to remove the load from the trailer if that's needed. they then send it to the destination/s with an If-Available delivery. i.e. if there is space, on it goes, if not, it waits. Hence the heavily discounted price.
Things of a certain size and/or weight must be palletised, but they don't charge you for the weight/size of the pallet. All timber *should* be wrapped and strapped (there are some pictures in my history in sales showing the method. I used recycling cardboard from the local depot).
If one lives near a depot, they are absolutely worth using. If the end recipient is remote, well... nothing new there.
Mobyturns, you are perhaps not too far from Cairns?
I've used Ego HUNDREDS of times to do massive and bulky lifts. 3 years ago I sold off about 4 cubes of all kids of timber. The guy picked up daily for a month while a shifted it all - to all over the country. In all the deliveries, none lost. A few took their time, but that comes with the third-class postage price

Cairns is a 700km round trip.
I've used E-go myself to the depot in Townsville. Took a while for them to locate the item after they had received it here. Initially it appeared to have been collected by another.
E-go is an option if others are interested in the NGR but at 3+m lengths they may refuse it???Mobyturns

E-go are great. I had them transport my table saw from Melbourne to Adelaide. Once in the depo in Adelaide they didn’t bother letting me know it had arrived and instead moved it out of the warehouse and stored it in the rain every day for a week as it was taking up too much space. After enquiring when it would be ready for collection it was a bonus to find it covered in rust. So I can highly recommend E-go.

Good luck with that, especially without any indication of cost. One thing I know... It's gonna have to be a local sale. And it's gonna have to be a hell of a deal. No way people are going to dish up dollars to have someone else decide what they get.

An update
An update - a fairy tale ending - not quite, but pretty darn close.
However, the WWF works in wonderful ways and the networks we make through these forums come to the fore.
A big thankyou to Old Croc for putting me in touch with a local small business who is very interested in the bulk of this wood parcel that I would like but cannot justify purchasing. I get the boards and slabs I would like. My newfound woodie friends take the NG rosewood at a price that is very competitive for them and it comes at a very timely point for them as they were about to order a similar quantity +freight etc.
The seller is happy to sell in one lot as originally intended and at the price they are happy with. The deal is all but done.
Those networks and connections we form are valuable.Mobyturns
