Default Sydney North Shore = Cedar Old Growth (x9)

    Hi,

Just making room on my stash.

I have 9 sticks of cedar for sale (I think there's 9, there may be more.... but I just counted 9....)

These are reclaimed boards from an old water tower. Each piece is approximately 1400x140x70mm. I have dressed all of them and they are quite lovely to look at with no knots or blemishes (EXCEPT a few of them have old bolt holes where fixings were attached)

These boards have a brown colouration (NOT Western Red).

Each piece is $40 or $300 the lot; I am open to negotiation. Pick up or delivery to SYDNEY North Shore (Only) for $20 unless I personally know you then its a beer for delivery.

    Obviously a private sale.

    I am in Turramurra NSW.

I dont get on the WW forums much any more so not sure if I am allowed to give my mobile number - here it is - Mods feel free to delete it if I have broken a rule...

    Give me a call on 04 12 27 7717

I'm also doubtful on the wood ID, with that grain structure its not likely, possible but not likely, that its red cedar from that image. Even aged red cedar has a distinctive "red cedar smell." It certainly looks attractive in its own right though.

    btw - neat push stick!

here are the close ups you requested.

    Just to reiterate:

    1) it's cedar = smells like a Norwegian sauna when you cut it and have a sniff..
    2) its all clear grain, very few knots. a few bolt holes in a couple of boards
    3) it's cedar despite what the brains trust tell you.

Come over and have have a look - each board is quite light in weight - what you would use in cladding of a house or a sauna...

Well, it certainly has the appearance of Western Red Cedar, some photos would suggest it’s more like that Irish timber, O’Regan. Americans call it Douglas Fir. But of course us in the brains trust wouldn’t know, even with our 40 plus years of experience.
Just goes to show how little we know and how the younger guys can teach is something.

My view is that it is proper cedar (cedrus probably atlantica) not Australian red cedar (toona australis). So you are all probably right

Wait a minute, you're only 15 so you can't drive and it would be irresponsible to provide you with beer.
