Sydney NSW - Australian cedar, Australian rosewood, camphor laurel and Huon pine
Australian cedar, Australian rosewood, camphor laurel and Huon pine
I am helping an elderly friend (who is no longer able to pursue his woodwork hobby) sell some of his timber. He has had this timber for well over a decade.
There are 4 lots that he is selling. The timber has been given a light spray of water to show the colour/grain
Lot 1 - Australian cedar $35.00
Comprises 4 pieces of Australian cedar with approximate dimensions of:
• 870mm x 130mm x 32mm
• 615mm x 72mm x 71mm (there are a couple of flaws near one end)
• 1,070mm x 84mm x 55mm (there is a knot about 30mm from one end)
• 1,100mm x 79mm x 79mm

Lot 2 – Australian rosewood $60.00

• 1,130mm x 197mm x 16mm
• 1,035mm x 158mm x 16mm
• 1,110mm x 158mm x 18mm
• 996mm x 149mm x 18mm
• 994mm x 156mm x 16mm
Good for box making etc.

Lot 3 – Australian rosewood $150.00
Comprises 6 pieces of Australian rosewood with approximate dimensions of:
• 1,580mm x 104mm x 25mm
• 1,625mm x 77mm x 52mm
• 1,705mm x 84mm x 54mm
• 1,230mm x 78mm x 78mm
• 1,230mm x 100mm x 78mm
• 1,585mm x 77mm x 77mm (has a couple of flaws)
3 Aust Rosewood 2.jpg
Lot 4 – Woodturning turning blanks $75
Comprises 8 blanks suitable for woodturning which range in diameter from approx. 160 mm x 360mm and range in depth from approx. 43mm to 180mm:
• 1 piece of Australian cedar
• 2 pieces of Australian rosewood
• 2 pieces of Huon pine “limb wood”
• 2 pieces of camphor laurel
• 1 piece of an unidentified timber.

My friend is not able to pack and post or courier the timber so the four lots are being sold on a pick-up basis only, with pick-up from St Ives (a Sydney suburb).
Thanks for looking

Australian Rosewood also known as Rose Mahogany (Dysoxylum Fraserianum) Grows in northern NSW and Queensland. Bloody big trees when mature.

Bendigo Bob I have been out over the weekend but rustynail is spot on. Aust rosewood or rose mahogany is similar in density to Tassy Blackwood. It’s great to work with whether by hand tools or machines. I have also turned a few things from it - turns well.
Very little is milled these days and as a consequence very few specialty timber merchants carry it.

Hi Gordon,
Hope all's well. Is there any way these can be brought over to the workshop in Abbotsford?
I'm interested in lots 1,2 and 3.
Regards,
Adam

timber
Hi there,
it looks like I may have searched on the site too late but I am driving to Sydney over the weekend and staying with family at Roseville. Is there any chance of making contact whilst I'm down and seeing what is available? Regards, Nigel

The woodturning blanks have been reduced to $55.
There are some nice wide or deeps bowls or dishes awaiting creation in these blanks

Hi Box
The blanks range in diameter from approx. 160 mm x 360mm and range in depth from approx. 43mm to 180mm.
Let me know if you want more precise dimensions and I will go to my friend's place to measure them in the next day or so.
The piece of Aust cedar and the 2 pieces of rosewood can be cut into round turning blanks. My friend has left them roughly square in width and length in case they were of interest to a box maker.
Thanks
