    Default 3/8" flutting cutter - for a #45, combo plane

    Hi all,

    I've a new project coming up and need to make a cove - wishing to do it with hand tools as this is a hand-tools man now!

    I'm after a 3/8" fluting cutter, as shown below. It will be converted to a 8mm-round.


    It will be going on my old beloved #45

    There's this Stanley 3/8" flute on fleaBay:
    VINTAGE STANLEY NO.45 55 COMBINATION PLANE No.34 3/8" FLUTING CUTTER IRON BLADE | eBay

    And a Lewin 3/8" flute:
    Vintage LEWIN 3/8" Fluting Cutting Iron Universal Plane Stanley 45 55 *L20 | eBay

    Outside of someone gifting you one, I think the Lewin is a pretty good price (for the online vintage tool trade).

    I saw these and thought to myself... could I make one (yes, but I always get hung up on the actual DOING of the project!) or whether someone might have one Just Lying Around doing nothing....

    I find it odd that the fluting cutters are not included in the standard kit. It has me curious why this might be.


    Given the recent efforts in the plane making competition, my lack of attempt looks rather lazy, doesn't it!
