Lightbulb 3m Live Edge Dining Table Slab

Hi, I'm looking to acquire a live edge dining table top for 10-12 seats, so 2.7-3m long x 1.0-1.2m wide.

First preference would be for a one piece, but would consider two pieces joined down the longer centreline. If I can't find live edge slab(s) within my budget then I would have to consider building it from boards.

I like the look of most woods, but for this area of the house I would lean towards browns or brown-honeys, so Acacia, Marri, Kauri, Camphor. Totally open to suggestions.

If anybody has a slab they never finished or know where I should shop then please let me know. I'm in Sydney but can borrow the work trailer to pick-up within NSW/ACT.

I would also be interested in knowing a mens shed or fabricator where I could build steel legs for cheap.

    Cheers,
    Rohan

Contact Greg Ward at Botique Timbers. He has just cut some beautiful camphor that might be just what you want

    Another one for Greg Ward

More work plus some silver ash

    2 BIG camphor logs

    A good day.

Alternatively if you're not able to travel to Telegraph Point, you could try Living Timber at Penrith who sometimes gets that sort of thing.

Denis Anderson-Newcastle Timber Slabs, he advertises on the wood selling group on Facebook. Gets some nice stuff. Good bloke too.

    A table that seats 10 comfortably needs to be about 3.6 to 3.9 metres long -- that's 4x700 + 2x400 **
A table only 3 m long will be a tight fit for 10 people.
For 12 people -- 5 sitting on each side -- a tight fit would require a table about 3.8 m long. Comfortable seating implies a table about 4.3 m long.

Do you have space for a table that big? Don't forget you also need to allow 900 to 1100 at each end so that people can get into and out of the end chairs.

** my furniture design book suggests that "tight seating" requires a space 600 mm wide, while "comfortable seating" implies a space 750mm wide. I've gone for a place setting width of 700mm.
There's also issues around where the table legs are placed viz-a-viz the chairs and the diner's knees.
And designing the table height to allow for the diner's thigh room viz-a-viz the table height.

Designing a dining table is not as straight forward as sitting a slab on a pair of legs.
    regards from Alberta, Canada
