Default 4 mm veneer of solid wood

    Hi,
I'm chasing a veneer of solid wood, to go under (yup, under) an acoustic guitar fretboard which I'm about to remove and then re-instate (at its new height), on top of this veneer.

Dimensions - approx 4 mm thick (plus or minus a tad would be fine) by 500 mm long by 60 mm wide.

Wood type - something not too soft - Rosewood, Jarra, Basswood, Blackwood, Ebony......... not too fussed.

I've thought of buying a fretboard blank and planing it down, but I'm currently thinking that a veneer around the correct height might be a better option.

Located in Sydney's Inner West. Postage? I assume so, given the current conditions?.........

    Cheers,
Bob Spencer - now doing a bunch of guitar repairs I've previously not had time to do........

I imagine that would be fairly easy to do if one had a thickness sander to clean up a ripping off your timber, be it from a table saw or a bandsaw with a half decent blade in it.

Mens sheds are closed at the moment, but you might be lucky with a forum member near you.

You might like to change your location from Melbourne to save some confusion.

    hi Henry
The OP has their location set to "Melbourne".
Riding a bike to and from Concord might be a tad too far ??

I'm sure there's a person in or close to MLB who could volunteer to do this for them
    regards from Alberta, Canada

    Hi Henry.
Soz about the location - I've just moved back to Sydney and can't for the life of me change my profile details on my phone.....

Re the cost - do we chat here or in private?

    Cheers mate,
    Bob - Dulwich Hill. 😊

Try Euge on this forum. He has plenty of exotic timbers which I've eye-balled myself (and drooled over).
    Good luck

You could try J & C Thin Timber Supplies in Gympie. I met up with them at the Maleny Wood Expo last year, very good range and great people to deal with.
