Default #44 Record plough plane depth stop

So once upon a time some nice person gifted me a #44 in very good condition.

In such good condition, I finally got around to ordering a set of Ray Isles blades for it. Which are also very nice, but I digress.

The only problem is that it is missing its depth stop. So if you have a spare lurking in the back of a drawer, or tool chest, or apron pocket, I would be very happy to recompense you.

And just so you know, the Carter depth stop from its #40 doesn't fit, and neither does anything from Stanley. It is a very definite 6mm internal diameter hole for the guide post.

(and p.s. sharpening those small rebate or plough blades is made very easy with Veritas's new side clamping honing guide. Doesn't look as if anyone is importing and selling it in Oz yet, but if you've got small blades, particularly ones with offset shafts, it's a godsend).

They're not too hard to make out of an M6 bolt with a decent length of straight shank and a scrap of 1/16"(ish) steel plate. The only tools you need are a drill (preferably a drill press), a countersink, hacksaw and a hammer.

I have a 44 at home with the stop so I can supply exact measurements and instructions on making one; unfortunately I won't be home till the 8th Oct. PM me if interested.

    Default Thanks

Thanks - I've got brass and rod I can use to make the stop, but as it's a nice little unit in good condition so am hoping to add its wee missing bit as made by its maker.

There's a previous post with dimensions so if I do decide to make the stop, I'm right to go. But thanks anyway.
