    Default No. 7 Jointer

Got a spare one? I'm after a user, and need to flatten a laminated bench top.
Of course, I'd love an early Stanley, and will pay the going rate for one in good shape.
But I do need something now, so open to other options too.

Would you be interested in a number 8?
It is an early Stanley of course and in good nick.
I can get some pictures if you like

Yep, I’d consider an 8. Might even be better for my purpose. I want this almost exclusively for flattening glued up tops. I get pretty flat off the jointer/thicknesses, but need a way to get totally flat without a trip to the local shop with wide belt thickness sander

Have you considered a router sled ?

Upgraded router sled rails and a new flattening bit! / How to flatten a slab - YouTube

Just an example video. They aren't a finishing tool IMO but if you makea lot of big tables tops etc you could skip the planer glue up flatten then finish with a sander etc.

I'm not knocking a big hand plane. I'd love a nice 7, but it's hard to justify the money. I've got routers and a bottom cleaning bit so a sled is just a jig away...

    Just a thought.

I have tried to send pictures from my phone - but unsure if it worked.
The Stanley No 8 is probably a TYPE 6 Stanley 1888-1890 a It has a Ron Hock High Carbon blade and Ron Hock Chip breaker/cap-iron
    Cheers

It's a great idea, but not really my jam. I'm just about to invest a tonne of cash into a Hammer A3-31, so I'll be happy to do the majority of the flattening there. I love what routers can do, but they aren't my favourite tool. Noisy, messy (even with great extraction), and jigs have a way of clogging up space too. I don't make loads of table tops - in fact, I've only done a few. I'm starting to get the hang of using hand tools for the final finishing and finessing, and it's a skill I want to keep developing.

Hey mate - You helped with my DC questions, happy to help if I can. PM me if you like.

I've spent the last few weeks restoring a bunch of planes and have a few left over.

    - Restored Stanley No.7
    - Old Falcon No.7

Pics - Imgur: The magic of the Internet

The Falcon needs restoring and sharpening, but you would be welcome to have it for the price of workshop advice, struggling tuning a 14" sherwood bandsaw at the moment lol
Alternatively, happy if you want to borrow the Stanley (even many months would be fine, don't have projects in a rush) for the same price. It's just I lovingly worked on it with the others and really want to keep it as part of my little set.

I'm just in Greensborough. All good if you ended up with the 8.

That's a kind offer, thanks mate.
Nice bunch of hand planes you've got there. I did end up taking the no. 8, so I'm all sorted now.

I wish I could help with the Sherwood. I've only owned 1 bandsaw, a Hammer N4400 that arrived a few months ago. It was a doddle to setup, has euro style guides, and I've never had any trouble at all with it.

    Good luck!

I picked up the No. 8 from Scribbly Gum.

No worries - I'll keep working on it. Glad the number 8 worked out!
