Default Antique Horizontal "HIT'N"MISS" Stationary Engine

The Kalbarri Men's Shed in Western Australia is desperately looking for a Hit n Miss engine.
We have several members who have a good mechanical background, and are finding it difficult to satisfy their interest.
The engine needs to be repairable Ie. complete or almost complete.

I would appreciate it if anyone out there knows where we can get our hands on one, could let me know.

    Thanks.
    Bob

Bob, I doubt if you will find a hit/n/miss engine in W.A., that is in need of restoration, and which is for sale. They are virtually all in "collectors" hands now, and most would be planned for restoration, in the process of restoration, or restored.
You could try Trachmach to see if any Trachmach members are willing to part with a prized possession. Other than that, I'd suggest Gumtree or eBay.

Clearing sales sometimes produce vintage items, but clearing sales are mostly held after Harvest, and you have to be keen and fight off other collectors - particularly where "vintage engine" is mentioned in sales catalogues.
There are a few vintage engines on Gumtree, but most are located in the Eastern States - and I didn't see any hit/n/miss models.

Old rotary hoes and vintage tractors are easier to come by - and either of those, I'd suggest, would make for a reasonable restoration project.

The S.A./VIC "Farm Clearing Sales" website lists most of the forthcoming clearing sales in S.A. and a lot in VIC.
There is also a section on that site that lists "private sales" - and if you click on the "Private Sales" button, then "Collectors & Restorers" link in blue, you will get a collection of vintage items that are for private negotiated sale.
The 1917 Ronaldson Tippett kerosene engine is a beauty - but at $7,700, it might be beyond the Mens Shed budget!

"CockyMart" also provides the odd vintage offering - but they are few and far between as compared to the Eastern States offerings.

The Howard DH22 Rotary hoe/tractor in Toodyay looks like a good project.

    Cheers, Ron.

    Bob,
Keep an eye on 'The Old Machinery Magazine', also. Our local library actually gets it.
