Default Small bandsaw up to $400

I'm after a small bench top bandsaw. I am in Brisbane.

I have a Jet 18" bandsaw but most of the time the blade is a resaw blade and change over time means I end up just leaving it in there. Putting the resaw blade in is not too bad but to get it back out means removing the fence then removing the table...

I have looked for small bandsaws new and they are either not in stock or of an unknown quality. I even considered the Ozito but they cannot be had from the Big Green Shed.

If anyone has one of the Giantz or Baumr ones you see advertised for around the $220 mark, I would also be interested in your experience.

I want to cut small detailed stuff for odd jobs. I'm not looking to use this for anything other than light duty jobs so I can pick it up and put it on my workbench then then leave it by the bench when not being used. So the 8 to 10 inch size is probably big enough.

Removing the fence and removiNg the table to change the blade? Is this normal with this brand of machine? Never heard of that with any other.

The blade is 32mm deep. You don't really need to do that for smaller blades.

Your best bet is Something like the Aldi bandsaw. 200mm wheel. I wanted an interim machine to make a small product with small radius curves. 5 years ago. Still going strong. I needed something I could put a 3 or 4 mm blade in and just leave it on for when I had free time to knock out a few. I’ve since made thousands of the item and no looking back. I picked mine up for $90.00 new marked down. Time over, I would not hesitate to buy at the full price. Buggered if I know what that was.i buy blades on eBay 5 at a time, $10 ea and get about 100 units out of a blade.

    cheers

Thanks. I would never have thought of Aldi!

Alas, it seems a long time since this was last offered. However it does look very similar to the Baumr saw. You can see this at Amazon: Baumr-AG 350W Bandsaw Wood Cutting Benchtop Machine: Amazon.com.au: Home Improvement

Perhaps I will just take a punt and buy this. Dealing with Amazon for returns if it is a bust is pretty easy.

Edit: Just bought the Baumr saw.I will report back.

My 19" CT BS can take a 32mm blade and while fitting it is not easy I certainly don't need to take the fence and table off to do it. Although if I had space I have to admit I would use a smaller BS for some jobs. I had a 9.x" Ryobi I found be the side of the road that just needed a new switch and new tyres but I gave that to my son.

Maybe you can get it out. Every time I have tried though, it did not feel right. Unfortunately, to get the table off necessitates taking the fence off. It isn't hard just very time consuming.

32mm is too much blade for this saw, in my opinion. It is borderline getting it to track with the teeth over the crown of the wheel without the rear of the blade touching the tension mechanism. If I ever wear this blade out, I don't think I will replace it with an identical one.

This new saw will live under the overhang of the bench on the right. I certainly do not have any room for a bigger unit.

I agree - it definitely does not feel right taking it out - yet I have done it many times.

Yep - it's a tight fit and is the one blade I have that I don't run with the bottom of the teeth gullets at the top of the wheel crown. We don't do that with the 2" wide blades on the 36" Milling bandsaw at the tree loppers yard either.

Interesting. I can get the gullets on the crown of the wheel; just. I resaved eight 200 to 280mm cherry boards today. I didn't use the resaw pivot fence. Just straight against the regular fence but with a parallel plywood helper clamped to the table on the outside of the sawn board to keep it firm against the fence. Worked a treat.
