Benchtop thicknesser and/or jointer
Hi,
I'm looking for a benchtop thicknesser and/or a jointer. I have a Bremen thicknesser from Sydney tools that's more than earned its keep, but its blown up and I don't fancy importing parts from Germany.
I'm looking to spend about $300-400 each, more than happy to do a deal if you have both.
Thanks!

Carbatec CT330x
Hi Simo-Saur-us,
I've a Carbatec CT330x spiral/segmented thicknesser. Its the desktop model, upgraded with carbide inserts, plus spares (will confirm quantity, but I think its 10 carbides, plus a full set of HSS).
It looks like this, but not as ugly! https://www.carbatec.com.au/carbatec...p-helical-head
Is this the kind of thing you are interested in?
I'm selling down, so the timing is good.
If I may also include a bit of a message I just sent to another member who just contacted me....
"I have an absolute stupendous load of the tastiest, juiciest, most desirable collection this side of the moon... plus a bloody good stash of more "ordinary" timbers.
Yes, I'm unloading the lot. I don't want to put it in the warehouse. The tools I want to keep, yes, but everything else no.
There are turning timbers, a full cube of Tassie offcuts from a mill, a juicy pile of highly figured River Oak planks, a couple of cubes of select figured tassie marvels, a HUGE pile of premium and highly desirable veneers and others...
I'm selling the things I simply don't use - I have three of most things! Look in the background of those photos. Its an Aladdin's cave
I'll get together a good list, lots of photos and bundle it all into "sell now" prices.
If youd like to come over and have a poke, please feel free to arrange a time. I'm in Mawson.

Could you PM me your number and I'll give you a call re: coming and having a look and also at all your other goodies! How much were you thinking for the thicknesser?

I'll PM the phone as the forum rules prohibit public posting of it, but Im very happy to include video and many many pictures.
As my other ads say, I look after my gear with a compulsive obsession bordering on an insanity.
I was looking at $600, which is way more than the anticipated outlay, but I thought to ask

Yeah that's probably a bit above my budget at the moment unfortunately

For your quoted budget of around $600 all up for both a jointer and a thicknesser (or combo) you’re going to either have to settle for suspicious rusty junk that might not last another week, will need new blades and will probably perform like a bag of poo anyway; or be an incredibly spawny git and score something worthwhile.
I have the exact same machine with the same head and the exact same CT inserts from the exact same supplier and I can tell you now that $600 is an absolute bargain. WP provided me with detailed instructions on how to eliminate snipe in my machine and I love it.
You can get away without a jointer. DAR timber isn’t jointed, they just pass the planks through a 4 axis planer (essentially a 4 sided thicknesser) and you can pretty much eliminate a jointer with multiple passes in a good thicky. Even badly warped planks can be tamed using a sled if you need to.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

I completely agree it is an absolute bargain and I'd snap it up if I had the money, but max I could stretch to for a thicknesser is about $400.

If you buy the thickie, go to this Aussie guy for replacement carbide cutters at a great price:
Byrd, CTS, Carbatec, Hafco, Felder Spiral/Shelix/Helix cutter head carbide inserts/knives/blades - SJE-Tool
The carbide ones are vastly superior to the HSS ones for most Aussie timbers and will last ages.
cheers, Ian

I do still have it.
AArggh is exactly right on the carbides. The CT330X I have has his carbides already. I may even have been his first customer (?) as a search of the forum shows my early enthusiasm to find replacements.
Ive the original HSS ones, plus a few spare carbides. Let me get a count and some photos together.
BTW, I am selling down an absolute TON of gear!
