Default Want to buy Stanley 42X saw set

    As per title.
Looking for a Stanley 42X saw set.
I'm going to retooth my Disston back saw.
Fellow forum members have said the 42X is a good one to get.
Anyone have one and willing to part with it?
    Thanks
    Lyle.

    I have a Somax No.250. Not a 42X but similar to an Eclipse 77.

Free if you would like it.

No pressure. I have a little sawset collection and the Stanley 42X is what I always use, so I understand the preference.

The red paint in the 'mouth' has been added or touched up, I believe.

PM me with your address if you'd like it.

Hi Lyle. The Somax is pretty good, you will be able to set teeth with it (and because it's easy to disassemble you can file down the plunger for smaller teeth - just do a better job than I did of filing it evenly )

I have half a dozen or so saw sets some of which I know are Eclipse. I will have a look this weekend when I am down at my workshop. Are they readily identifiable?

The Eclipse 77 looks exactly like the Somax I posted pictures of above. Eclipse had about 3 or 4 other size and saw types too.

    Thanks.
The Stanley 42X is described as a "pistol' shape. The handles are about 90degrees to the body.
Should be stamped on the body or on the inside of one of the handles.

Hi Lyle, I've posted out the Somax No. 250 to you this morning. It should suffice in setting saws until a 42X pops up.

So much for my memory, sorry Lyle but 3 x Eclipse 77's and an Atlas.

    Thanks for looking.
I think my search will now just be casual.
    One will turn up eventually.

I have a Stanley #42. I do not know the age. Someone here may know more. It may be the model before the #42W.

The hammer and anvil are unmolested.

It's just grimy from storage and use in the past (I have not used it - purchased it several years ago).

Let me know if you are interested and, if so, make a reasonable offer.

    Regards from Perth

    Thanks for the offer Derek.
I have a call out to the HTPSWA. They have a sale coming up soon.
    Hopefully I'll get lucky.
    I have the Ecipse 77.
I'd like the Stanley 42X, but will get by with the Eclipse for now.
