Combination Thicknesser Planer
Hi Folks, chasing a single phase combination thicknesser planer anywhere is SE QLD. Preference for one with a helical head cutter already installed. Budget is up to $3000.

I have a Sicar 350mm but with straight knives (two sets of three, sold fresh sharpened) and a two magnetic setting guides. It has a three phase motor running on a single phase VFD.
I am asking $1000. I think a custom helical from Sheartak (for example) would likely be $2,000It's all part of the service here at The House of Pain™

I think I know of a near new single phase machine in Clontarf 4019 that would fit your budget. I’ll check with the dude.
cheers

Let me give you some food for thought on that. Many many years ago I worked in a shop and we had a planer where the motor blew at the worst time. Only motor kicking around was a half speed one... We had no idea if a planer could even function with a 1800rpm motor. But we were in a rush so I threw it on... Got everything buttoned down, everyone gathered around, and I hit the switch... Well, we all looked at each other and said: is it on!?!? All you could here was a very slight whine of the motor. It was whisper quiet. Now came the test. What was the surface going to look like at that speed. Put the planer on high speed and ran a board through it... Perfect and could barely hear it plane the pine. I have a real dislike for loud noise and religiously wear earmuffs but never needed them after that while planing. The usual whine from the dust extractor pulling air over the whirling blades was gone also.
All I can say is I was sold. After that, all my machines from that day forward were swapped over to 3ph on a central VFD and ran at half speed. Even my bandsaw was put on 3ph. I never set the tablesaw up though. It was a big 12" and I couldn't run the motor I needed on the VFD I had.
