Dilapidated Triton Mk3 Work Centre Wanted

I am guessing that a few of us old dudes who bought Triton Mk 3 Workcentres in the 1980's have a long unused old Triton work centre sitting at the back of the garage in a possibly dilapidated, incomplete condition and which is just taking up space for no good reason. I continue to use mine for its original purpose but the thought occurred to me a few days ago that the table of the old Tritons may be flat enough to use as a welding table for light welding, notwithstanding that I would not expect it to be able to endure a lot of heat.

Nonetheless, I am wanting to try using such an old Triton work centre for such purpose and so am looking for a basic Triton work centre at a token price, please. Say $20. Because the use of the table as a welding table could destroy its flatness very quickly means that this is a bit of an experiment and therefore it is not worth my spending a lot of money on the idea.

If anyone has an old Triton work centre that they want to get rid of for $20 please let me know. My only need is that the table top remains flat. Missing paint or any of the component parts and accessories does not matter as it is just the top surface and the rigidity of the supporting frame that is attractive for my purposes.

Have ute and can pick up anywhere in the greater Brisbane area.

Thanks for the contribution. However, I am in Brisbane and a drive to Canberra might be going a bit beyond the greater Brisbane area, even if sometimes we do refer to anyone in the southern states as being in the southern suburbs.

Thanks. Had seen this and reckoned that it might be more of a drive than I really want to do. It did make me think that my quest for an old Mk3 Triton for $20 was not totally unreasonable, though.

Nonetheless, thanks for making the effort to mention this. Much appreciated.

Not sure if this would effect its potential use as a welding table but many of the Triton MK3 tablesaw tops underside rails and supports are held together with an epoxy glue. Heat from your welder would no doubt loosen these joints.

Many thanks for that info. I did not know that. I would have thought that it would have been quicker and cheaper for them to spot weld the supports. I shall deal with that somehow. Depending on the dimensions, a few countersunk screws might do the job of holding the supports in place. I weld outside in a breezy place so smoking paint or epoxy will probably not worry me too much, health-wise.

In the short term, it should not worry me too much as most of the things that I weld are square or rectangular hollow section tube (see attached photo of a native bee hive stand that I have just done) which I square up with mitre clamps which raise the workpieces above the table such that I am usually not welding directly on the table but instead taking advantage of its flat surface.

Anyway, we shall see how it goes if I get an old workcentre.

easy fix! spot weld the tabletop before anything else.
