Default Dust Extractor +/- Clearvue bits

As the shed progresses, I need to start working on decent dust collection. Eventually this will be a Pentz cyclone (clearvue), most of which I will (hopefully) build myself.

I'll need a basic DC until I get the CV sorted. The jointer wants 500cfm.

So if you have any unwanted DC / clearvue bits lying around, please let me know.

    - A basic DC - at least 500cfm, going cheap
    - Clearview bits, particularly impeller; decent 2nd hand 3p motor (must be easily wired for a VFD (Delta)). Around 3kw seems to be the CV site suggestion.

If the jointer needs 500 CFM then the DC itself needs to be at least double this.
Also bear in mind that manufacturers claimed flow rates are significantly underestimated - basically you need to half their claims.

NONE of this matters unless 150 mm ducting is use and machinery dust ports are opened up to utilise the 150 mm ducting.

Dust collector flow rates are not only dependent on the motor but the size of the impeller and requirements depend on the length of ducting and this usually depends on the size of your shed and machinery layout. Ducting often ends up longer than you think especially if DC is outside shed.

Rough guidelines - assumes 150 mm ducting
Small shed with machinery within ~3m of DC then a 2HP DC with a 12" impeller modified as per the sticky in the forum will generate ~800 CFM
Medium sized shed and machinery is within ~6m of DC then a 3HP DC with a 13" impeller will generate about 1000 CFM
Large shed, machinery within about 12 m then 4HP DC with a 14" or larger impeller should generate ~1200 CFM
Large shed and BP cyclone is being used then a 4HP motor with a 15" or 16" impeller can generate ~1400 CFM or more

Thanks Bob - particularly the half the mfg claim / double the requirement rule!
The 'small' cheapo is just a temporising measure - it'll park next to the machines as I use them. Just to keep going while I get the final setup sorted.
The 'within 12m' option should fit my needs for the final setup.

I sold a few Clearvue impellers and a while ago I put up a wanted ad here but got no response. I could pull my cyclone apart and copy the impeller increasing the size but I can't be bothered. Making one would not be rocket science if I had one to copy.
