    Default Elu TGS172/173 spares

Hi, I'm after a few spares for my Elu TGS172.

I need the following if anyone has them laying around
    - riving knife (and guard if available, I have the knife holder part)
    - blade guard with the wheels (one of my wheels is broken off, the other missing altogether)
    - miter fence accessory that slides on left side along the bar on the side of the table.

Even if you have some details or pictures that I could make these parts from that would be great.

I know I can get some of these parts from the UK but time is against me at the moment, thanks for looking.

    Mick.

Hi Mick, the blade guard wheels are just turned discs of nylon, and are held in place by a circlip so these will be easy to make, a holesaw will work fine there.

I actually can't find my riving knife anywhere, but I'll see if I can find my mitre fence to take a pic as it's been years since I used it.

    Mitre pics attached!

    Awesome! thanks aarggh!

I think I'll be able to make something up for the wheels, I was thinking sliding door wheels or similar but the nylon will work

so does the mitre fence have any way to stop wobbling on the rail with wear and tear?

thanks for the pic's they're very helpful, cheers.

Hi Mick, the fence guide is a pretty snug fit but works surprisingly well, like all ELU stuff really!

But if your'e cobbling your own up, you could just use a strip of nylon or hdpe (or even wood coated with wax) on one side with some grub screws to tighten the fit.

The wheels aren't much, probably the only critical part is the diameter of the hole, so they don't slop around, and potentially bind, but circumference isn't crucial at all.

Good to see there's still plenty of these great saws in use, it's a testament to a well made product!

I bought it a while ago for $125 in working order but needed some tlc. A chippy mate of mine has had one for many years and jobs and he knows his stuff so when one popped up I grabbed it
It's whisper quiet and solid and it's main job will be as a table saw at home so I think I'll probably build a removable top for it with slots for a sled etc. I'll still knock one up for rough site cuts, the hdpe strip sounds good.

I grabbed a door push plate made of stainless 2mm plate from Bunnings to cut a riving knife out of once I knock up a cardboard/mdf template.

    thanks again for your help.

No problem, happy to help. Words don't express how far ahead of the game Elu were with these saws!

As you say they are whisper quiet, and just keep on plugging away. I gave my 35yo 172 away as I acquired a 173 in mint condition. The only real difference between the two are the handle and power switch design, and a minute change to the table clamp.

So if you see any 173's sold for parts, virtually all of it is compatible with the 172.

One word of caution worth mentioning, if ever you transport it by car, always have it in rip saw mode, with the head lowered so it rests against the body frame, otherwise a bump could cause the aluminium table assembly to crack if the saw is in drop saw mode. I saw this once about 25-30 years back when a tradie brought his in to the tool shop, cost around $500 at the time to replace the assembly!
