Keep an eye on scumtree too, and be patient. They do come up occasionally.
If you end up going for new, see if you can hang on for the next promo cycle as they regularly toss in a box of dominos and cutters (although there'll be a price increase in Jan, so you'll have to weight that up if it's not in this year's last promo)

When is the next promo likely to be? And are they only available if purchasing direct from festool?

Just buy new, by the time you’ve waited for a secondhand one, you will have used the new one and wondered why you waited so long to buy it. A year later, you’ll have forgotten what it cost and wouldn’t sell it for anything.

There's one on eBay listed a couple of hours ago:
    Festool domino 500 | eBay

I have no details on the item, nor am I affiliated with the seller/sale.
Just thought I would let you know.

I'm keen to buy one too, but I will probably wait until next promo as mentioned above.
It might be better than risking a second hand one.

    Cheers.

They usually run in 3 month cycles. THis year has been odd in Aus. Used to be Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun etc, but there was a big gap mid year and the current one runs Sep-Nov (Promotion page; and Brochure). So whether the next will start in Dec, or they'll wait for the new year is hard to tell.

You can buy from Festool or any of their official dealers. Total Tools for a physical store (Sydney Tools too but they're not great for service), or online guys like idealtools.com.au, who are very good.

Festool have been doing free delivery during COVIDS (which must hurt their online dealers).

If 2nd hand, the newer machines have plastic positioning lugs (yuk) and an updated fence to accomodate the newer 4mm cutter. Older machines have metal lugs () but you need to modify the fence slightly if you want do 4mm dominos (or use a domiplate).

Yep seen that one yesterday which piqued my interest. But being pick up only rules it out. Thanks though!

OK great info. I just discovered the Sept-Nov brochure.

I have a project in mind (a new baby cot/crib). Ideally wanted to get started in the next few weeks. But also could be worthwhile waiting until December as if there is a promo with free cutters it sounds like a great saving.

Might even see if there is someone local that I could ask to use one in return for a carton of beer or something while I wait for the promotion.

Another thing to look out for is occasionally Festool have specials on select stuff, not across the board, and a few times they've had the Domino Systainer starter sets on special.

The set for the DF500 has been on special a few times over the last 24 months for $299 (Oct last year it was $199!), which included a full set of the cutters, in addition to around a 1000 domino's!

don't wait too long to get started on the baby's cot / crib.

Knowing the pace many of us woodies work at, if you wait for a possible promotion in December, the bub is likely to outgrow the crib before you get started.

    +1!

I've got some go car parts in the shed I got when our first bloke was just a few years old to build one with, he's 30 now!

Pretty sure he's given up now! ;-)

OK I bit the bullet and ordered one new. Want to get started on the build ASAP and I never treat myself (that's my justification to myself/my wife anyway).

Worst case scenario I don't use it very much and I sell it in a few months for $1k+. Best case it opens up a whole new world of possibilities!
