Default Wanted: Lie Nielsen #4 1/2 smoother & LN #7 jointer

I'm getting more and more into my hand tools these days, love my other LN planes so hoping I can pick up either a No 4 1/2 or a No 7 to upgrade some of my old Stanleys. Probably a long shot I know but worth asking! Let me know if you're looking to move either of them on, they'll be going to a good home [emoji1]

Dan, I have a #4 1/2 I am prepared to sell ... but it may be a tad more than you want to spend!

LN #4 1/2 Anniversary in bronze. Only 500 were made. These are signed by Thomas LN, Cocobolo handles and knob. The plane comes with a "Anniversary lever cap and 50 degree frog. I also have a 45 degree frog.

These were taken when I got it shortly after it was produced ...

Lightly used (as you know, I have many other planes). It is a wonderful performer!

Really only for the romantic user with a collector heart ... $2450

    Cheers

    Derek

    Hi Dan
you do know that you are looking at two very different planes?
the #4-1/2 is a wide smoother
    the #7 is a mid-length jointer

Can I suggest that you keep an eye on Patrick's tool list -- sign-up here http://www.supertool.com/oldtools.htm
Prices are in USD and, if the tool is still in production, are typically a bit less than what the tools go for new

    good luck
    regards from Alberta, Canada

May I ask why? What’s the real difference that justifies all that spend? Are they easier to use? Produce a better finish? I’m struggling with a tag of $2.5k for a handplane, unless it’s made of gold or titanium.

Derek's plane is a limited edition, the standard #4 1/2 and #7 don't even come close to that price.

I've got a LN Large Scraping Plane I would probably consider trading as well. Could make up price difference with cash.

Would also consider a #4 in either bronze or cast iron.

    Hey Bueller,

I just bought a LN #4.5 w/ 55 deg frog the other day. They've still got #4.5's in stock. You should get it from the Lie Nielsen Website. Or are you looking to get it second hand? Just curious

    Cheers,

    Bernard
