Default Motor cap for Festool RS2E sander

Bit of a long shot but I'm chasing the cap (bit circled in yellow) from the top of the body for an RS2E sander if anyone has an old dead one lying around they'd sell for parts?

Mine is destroyed beyond repair unfortunately, but I really want to get it working.

I have tried to put a direct link here, but it won't work as it'll ask for a login.

That aside, I looked up your tool on EKat.

If your tool is part number 487206 - then the part you need is shown on this picture here:

If your particular sander has a different model/part number, let me know, and I will look it up to double check it isn't a different part number (there are oddly 5 different Festool part numbers for an "RS2E" sold in Australia - I've picked the most likely candidate, but do double check!

It appears to be part number "15". And here is the detail for that part (last line in the screenshot):

As you can see you can get this easily from Festool for AUD$24.62 inc GST. You may have to wait whilst one comes in from overseas - but I consider this to be a very good price for a part that could easily cost way more. The part number you need is 488661, and you can get one by simply giving Festool a call direct. Please double check the price when ordering in case it's not correct online.

Thanks for that info, part 15 is the one I'm after, I had checked a couple of UK/US suppliers, but while the part was cheap the post was around $90 or so. I had planned to call Festool tomorrow but didn't really think I'd have much hope as it's well over 30 years old, but definitely worth trying.

Fantastic, I was just able to order it online with Idealtools!

They have a Festool spare parts search tool to just order anything directly. Very handy!

Yes, and any other place would just order it from them anyway so you’re cutting out the middleman and any associated hassles

You know, I really do think the Germans are top notch on these things.

It reminds me of two things, which are true...

First, is my father has a friend, Matthias. He is German, obviously, and now lives in Japan. He lived in Oz for ages. When he was young, he happened on an opportunity to buy shipping crates absolutely packed with billions of little "obsolete" computer parts. Widgets from older machines that were not economical for "the company" to maintain.

    That company was IBM.

I remember visiting once and his house was like a Crazed Cat Lady... a mad hoarder as seen in the news. These things, all in labelled boxes lined every wall, every hallway, filled every room.

IBM would tell clients for something like their 1970's ultra-expensive AS400... "soz, no longer stock that part, see Mattias".... these machines are still cranking away in the lower depths of various industries and banks even today. They run processes that have never failed, ever, once, and IT people are TERRIFIED to even LOOK at the code (I should know, I program Ada/COBOL and STILL get calls occasionally!)

Mattias made out like a Pirate. Fortunes were made. He expanded and moved to Japan with his wife where he continues doing exactly this in Tokyo today.

Yes I had visions of ordering "rare" spare parts and it coming to an astronomical figure! So pleased it's just list plus modest postage!

One of the projects I worked on (ICO - competitor to Iridium) used heaps of Force (Sparc) CPU-50T VME embedded systems, now they were uber cool!

Really sweet hardware, amazing I/O, and could pack a stack of them into a VME chassis!
