Pair of gramercy holdfasts
Hi, as stated in the title I'm on the hunt for a pair of holdfasts from Gramercy Tools. I'm based in Sydney but happy to pay for postage.
Thanks,
Walt

Is the Record Bench Holdfast #146 an option?
I can help with a couple of those.
Not as olde worlde as ye Gramercy, but the Records will hold down firmer than anything else.Stay sharp and stay safe!

I would be interested in the No. 146 do you have one or a pair? and does it include the bench insert?

I would be selling on behalf of my local Mens Shed. If I remember correctly there are at least two surplus to requirements, possibly more. I have seen at least one insert floating about somewhere at the Shed (other than in a bench), but finding it might be a challenge.
First option to Walt, but if he doesn't want any of them we can then explore what we have and what you want.Stay sharp and stay safe!

Thanks Neil for the word about the Record bench holdfasts. They look very handy and sturdy but I will keep looking for ye olde ones. Thanks though
Cheers,

Thanks for the info and the tip about Wood Tamer - hadn't considered local blacksmith-made
Cheers,

Sorry, Camelot, the Records holdfasts have gone.
If you are after users and not specifically wanting the Record/Marples holdfasts, there are the following two no-name of similar design that are still available...
They are made from steel, not cast iron, have an 8" reach, with 7/8" posts and no bench plates. Wt. approx. 1.9kg each.
Let me know if you are interested and we can work out a price.Stay sharp and stay safe!

Would not be difficult to make your own with some elementary blacksmithing skills.
The load leveling spring bars used in caravan weight distribution rigs are perfect for the task. Just cut to length, anneal, bend and shape to preferred shape and then harden/temper again.
I have some lengths of that in 3/4" round bar here that you would be welcome to, but the cost of sending might be worth more than sourcing 2nd-hand locally. e.g. this lot is in Vic, but bits and pieces must come up in Syd from time to time.Stay sharp and stay safe!

That's a shame, I collect tools from my home town, so the No.146 would have ticked that box and would have interchanged with the No.145 which I already have.
I would not be interested in the homemade ones, but thanks for offering them.
