Default Purple Heart or Osage Orange

Does anyone have any Purpleheart or Osage Orange they're willing to part with? The sizes I'm after are (Length x Width x Thickness):

    130mm x 130mm x 25mm (for a tote handle)
    75mm x 50mm x 50mm (front knob)
    400mm x 87mm x 45mm (plane body)

The above are the finished or dressed sizes. I can dress the pieces myself but if the pieces are rough sawn, please let me know if I have to take into account any twists, cups, or bowing to get the size that I need. If you don't have the sizes I need but you have some PH and OO you're willing to sell, please send me a PM anyway. I know that PH laminates very well to the point the seams become invisible even to those that know where to look.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Watts Wood in Salisbury has purple heart but I remember it being some eye watering price, close to $10k/m3. Last resort maybe?

No luck with Watts Wood. And it looks like he's in the process of re-locating to new premises. He said his temporary digs will be at Underwood until he finds a more permanent spot.

Sorry for the bum steer, it's been a little while since I was there and they had quite a few purpleheart boards. I wouldn't have guessed it would move at the prices being asked.

No apologies necessary, Umar. If anything you've done me a favour by introducing me to another source for exotic timbers that I wasn't aware of. So, thank you.

    Default Block of Purple heart

I have a block of PH measuring 158mmx156mm x50mm but thats all I have of it.Not much good to you unless you can get more to accomplish what you want to do.

    John,

If it's a dressed piece, then I reckon I can get a tote (possibly 2) and one knob out of it if I'm careful with laying it out. What's your asking price including postage to Robertson 4109 please? I should probably have mentioned that it was never my intention to have all 3 pieces from the same species. The tote and knob will need to match but the base can be some other species for contrast. Purpleheart is much too strong to use in large quantities IMO. I only use it as a "highlight" timber. And if you had a piece big enough for all 3, I would have made 2 planes: one with PH tote and knob with a diff base, and the 2nd with PH base and a diff tote and knob.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike ,

I was going to use it for inlay on a job I had planned ,however have decided on a block of African ebony that I have so you can have this for what I paid for it plus postage. It has one rough sawn edge all the rest finished smooth.

Despite John's kind offer, my appetite for Purpleheart and Osage Orange has not been satisfied and I'm always on the hunt for more. Please let me know if you have any you're willing to part with.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I have dry Osage Orange in log form (150-300 ida) and although cracked, you should be able to get what you need from them. I do not have Purpleheart, but have Pink Gidgee instead. It may get darker but at least it stays purple rather than turning brown like Purpleheart.

If interested give me a ring on 0417 782 204, I'm in Nerang on the Gold Coast so you could check them out.

Ok......I have enough PH to keep me going for a while. I'm still interested in Osage Orange, Pink Gidgee, Buloke, Purple-Wood Wattle and Inland Rosewood in similar sizes. Cheers.

I've picked up some Gidgee, Pink Gidgee, and Inland Rosewood in log form from Dai, but I dunno if they're gonna yield the sizes that I need.
