Default Start cap for 750W (1HP) dust extractor

    G'day
I think i found the reason my dust extractor wont start.

Trouble is... it exploded exactly where the cap info is eg uf & watt info.

Can anyone tell me what cap i need, and possibly where to buy one on the Qld Sunshine Coast?

    Thanks
    Graham

Sometimes the value of the capacitor is on the motor data plate, it’s voltage is usually 440v

The start cap on my old dusty blew up a couple of years ago. I eventually tracked down a $$ replacement cap, but I was warned when purchasing it that the motor itself was probably the fault. It did in fact blow again soon after replacement. I would be thinking of finding a motor rewinder to check out the motor first or just go out and buy a new one.

A typical value for a start cap for a 1hp motor would be from 140-180µF with about a 300v rating. This value is not critical so anything in that range would do.

Google "electric motor repair" and you will find plenty of suppliers.

I found local electrical supplier did not have much choice but found one that suited my pool pump. For my very old bandsaw motor, got one through Machinery House spares.

Washing machine repair places also have similar rated caps. As Bodhan mentioned the value isn't overly critical generally, more so that the voltage rating has a good overhead.

When my compressor cap went (just like yours) my local Jaycar had the exact replacement for about $20
