That's not a bad price, depanding on what comes with it, unfortunately there's no pics or details of what it comes with.
I paid $1500 for mine, it came with a router attachment, the copying stylus, end cover for the grinding threaded end, a cover that went over the drive spindle, plus a few other bits I can't remember.

life goes fast when spending money.
Met a southern Adelaidian who used to work at Symtec and what he doesnt know about them. Anyway he arranged for us to buy one $500 2 extra chucks (1 vermac) 30 or so chisels, just about every extra they made for the Symtec. had belonged to a guy in retirement village, he tried it about 4 times and shuffled off this mortal coil we call earth and there is sat under cover, un used, unloved for 10+ years.
Dang theyre heavy suckers trying to get into a ute. and here it sits at home still unused as we (she & I) decided to set up the workshop correctly (whatever that means)...read the Dust extraction section of this forum. On top of that its downsizing household effects (junk) and off loading daughters stuff as she has hived off leaving 4 kids with their dad and only a dog knows where she is.
Once up and running and proud of what its producing will post some photos, but then again symtecs arent real lathes are they.......ducking for cover.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

Hi Tony,
That's an excellent buy. I found that removing the motor and the legs, makes it a lot easier to move around.
I found that the copy attachment wasn't all that great, I use it freehand mainly, only time I did use it, was to make some legs for a shool students project.
Regarding your other comment, wash your mouth!!!!!!!! Not with Scotch either.

I'm jealous of your buy, Tonto. I bought a Symtec "shell" 3 weeks ago. It has no motor, chuck or copying pins and the bed is pitted, so much so that I suspect that it was left outside for a long while. The tailstock was "frozen" to the bed - I have freed it up now.
You are right about the weight. It has been difficult unloading it and building a moving platform under it, all single - handed. Adapting a trolley jack was the only answer that I could come up with.
Much to the disgust of SWMBO, I have started a restoration project that I'm not sure I will finish in the short term.
Perhaps I should start a WIP on the restoration?

Hi Crunchie, I've a spare copying attachment that's yours if you want it, not a genuwine Symtec but a Woodfast one.
To move the lathe around, when I did the shed, I used a frame that I made 12 years ago to move a refrigerated display case, with castors under it, lifting it with an engine lifter. Can bring the frame down to suit your resto if you want it?
Can bring the copy attachment with me also, when I pick up the radial router.

Thanks Kryn, I will gladly take you up on your offer of the copying attachment. I have solved the problem of moving the lathe around. I'll PM you to arrange pick-up.

OOOOH, what a pity I've already spent my next 3 months tool allowance. Thats below half the price I paid for mine.
