What does 'longways' mean? Do you want the slab cut into four boards 400 x 455 or four 'beams' about 100 wide? If it's the former you're looking for a bandsaw that's beyond what most of us would have available.

it should be easy to split in two with a chainsaw mill. What sort of wood is it? What way do you want it cut?

You're not going to get 4 pieces 18mm thick, Barry, maybe 16mm if the slab is already flat and finished on both sides.

I imagine Aldav was allowing something for the kerf (is that the correct term for the blade cutting thickness)

That and the fact they will also likely need to be thickness planed to get them all to identical thickness after ripping them on the bandsaw.

Barry revised post #1 Pagie so you have to go right back to the start to determine the exact original requirement. I wouldn't worry about it though as I suspect that by the time you ripped a 73mm slab in to 4 equal thickness boards with a chainsaw you'd only have wood chips and saw dust left.

    Think plan A (I assume) was 400 x 455 so bandsaw throat @ 400mm

    cheers

    Default requirements changed ...

WANTED: Need 2 small Timber Slabs Resawn

Now have 2 small slabs of hard wood timber

    Each are 73mm thick by 400 x 200

Need them both resawn to 35mm thickness

They've both have been run thru my table saw on all edges.
Was hoping I could hand saw the rest of the way thru.
    But too hard.

Actual cut size is about 265 x 65mm
but still needs 8" (200mm) bandsaw clearance.

Anywhere near Glen Iris 3146 is preferable

Happy to travel to you at your convenience.

Will to pay for time and effort.

    Thanks,
    Barry G. Sumpter
