The usual things that go wrong with these in descending order are the Triac blowing, resistor(s) overheating (going open circuit), and the pot going dirty/tracks deteriorating. The pots usually not hard to fix, but it looks like the controller is set in epoxy, and from my experience that really makes it almost impossible to repair as the epoxy is so hard to remove without destroying components.
