    Default Wadkin MF Storage

    Hi,

I am looking for someone in the Perth area who could store a Wadkin MF chain & chisel mortiser while I workout how I am going to get it back to the Sunshine Coast, which might become a week long adventure where I fly out buy an old 80 series Landcruiser & trailer and make the journey back via Melbourne where I have another Wadkin machine to pick up.

It would need to be someone with a lifting beam/block & tackle or have a forklift truck, to unload/reload the machine.

    Cheers Nigel

    Bah! This reeks of effort.

Use E-GO.com.au heavy lift and pallet services.

They'll pick up, fork it on to a lorry and get it to you for 1/50th the price of fuel alone.

Strap the machine down WELL to the pallet, maybe wrap a blankie around it too, drop it to the local depot.

They will fork it off for free and you'll get the machine (some time) later. Heavy lift is slow, but its reliable and super cheap, especially COMING from Perth as all the trucks leave empty. It comes with tracking.

Depot dropoff receives a discount, as does depot pickup.

They will fork it into your trailer for free too.

Thanks, I have add a online quote and their nearest depot is Forrestfield, the seller told me that the machine was in Gingin, but now he says its in Malaga which is closer to the e-go Forrestfield depot. I have asked the seller if he can drop it off there but he's not responded yet.

Looks like a terrific machine and worth the effort. Another Wadkin for the shed

I will say if you are putting it on a pallet, lift it up and put a sheet of MDF at least 15mm thick under it to distribute the weight of the machine. Pallets are very weak and the weight of the machine in travel is very likely to rock back and forth, and most likely will smash through on one of the sides next to the centre bearer!

I had this happen to a machine I had freighted from NSW, the pallet was destroyed in transit, and the machine ended up doing a lot of damage to the goods stacked next to it, needless to say the driver was somewhat unhappy!

Or you could have the courier mess up the delivery...

Not mine fortunately. This happen to wallace (in the UK) a couple of years back. He watched his Wadkin MF tumble off the tailgate of the lorry and bounce... .

That was a softwood pallet not rated to carry that sort of weight, a hardwood pallet in Oz will handle that all day. Softwood pallets here are only rated to 500kg from memory, hardwood pallets to 1000kg.

    Yes it is a concern.

This MF is not flat underneath, you have to either have a hole in the ground or put it on blocks, so there will be a hole in the pallet.

The other thing is how top heavy it might be, at my place I have made a lifting jig for lifting it from a hole in the top of the MF which was put there by Wadkin for this very purpose, I will not be lifting it from the bottom and using the pallet.
