20 plus years ago a mate and myself scored a few lots when the NSW forestry auctioned off their wood collection and samples so the guvernmunt could cash in the land at Putney.
I have a few odd boards of stuff I’m not sure of what it is in my rack.
There certainly was rainforest species like Ivorywood.
If you can post some photos of what it looks like I’ll have a dig.

Unfortunately, I do not have any of the timber to photograph. I only need a piece or two about the size of the timber samples that NSW Forestry used to sell with labels on them, though slightly larger would be better as it has to be used to carve the missing sections of the back mid rail of a couple of chairs and they are up to 25 mm thick. it must look pretty similar as timber to Crows Ash as it is a related Flindersia species.

I purchased a small quantity from a forum member back in 2013 but from memory I have used it all in my laminated work. I will have a scratch about to see if some is still in my "well catalogued" heap system.

That member now has "Banned" shown under the name in those old posts.

unfortunately, I think that Mapleman is out of the game, otherwise I'm sure he would have had a source.

Bit of a lightbulb moment
When we were up the north coast earlier this year on the way to that mo bike ex at that Southbank gallery we dropped in on big stan in Mullim.
I was talking about the Silver ash chairs I was making the kids and he gave me a stick of
Pretty sure it was Yellow wood.

Oh, thanks Aldav, I hadn't realised Chris had re-nicknamed himself. I've been off the forums for a while - had a bad experience here.

I bought a lot from Chris when he lived down close by but understood he had ceased his timber getting and moved to FNQ. Now, the NQ address clicks.

In fact, my fall-back if I can't source yellowwood is to use some of the crows ash that I bought from Chris years ago. Yummy stuff but mostly small section size, which is fine for this repair. It looks pretty similar but I've read that the greasiness of crows ash causes some problems with glue-up and I don't want the Royal Society's chairs falling apart in a few years - my name would be mud.

Sorry David, the boards I have are Yellow Walnut. I have some Crows Ash and some "unidentified" species with it, which could possibly be yellowwood but no way I could be positive about the ID.

Thanks anyway Mobyturns. I'll keep looking. if I'm completely stuck there is plantation grown timber I read on the net.

Finally caught up with this request.
Being small in quantity & size (the wood I mean) I think I can help IF I can find a small board I have in mind. Will PM with news soon
