1920s lounge in need of resto and good home
Hi Everyone,
Probably sounds a bit strange on this forum, but I have a 1920s Jacobean revival lounge that needs quite a lot of love from someone that is not me. Age was ascertained by my knowing someone with the same lounge that had been in their family since new. This piece of furniture needs to leave my home in the not too distant future as it is being replaced with something that better meets the needs of my young family. This also means that it doesn't have a home for much longer - and I'd rather not be the one who condemns it to the clean up or firewood. Charities simply don't take anything like this any more and to be honest, I don't think this would even be fair to drop on them even if they would.
So, the details:
- Genuine 3 seater in size.
- Structurally fine and the timber is in generally good condition (It's not dent free, but it's definitely not abused to the point where it can't be made to look good again).
- Shellac needs a clean up - probably a strip back and start again on the tops of the arms, but the rest may able to be done with just a freshen up if you can get the colour match to work.
- The real work is in the rattan at the arms. Unfortunately the couch was slept on a couple of times by someone (not me) who was a kicker in their sleep. I believe it's held in with some timber strips that would have to be removed in order to extract the remains and install new rattan. Of course, the option would be to just remove it altogether.
- The rattan in the back is complete and generally undamaged, although is in desperate need of being freshened up with new shellac.
- I am at a time in my life where I don't have the time or space to be able to do this item justice and am hoping that someone on this forum (or someone they know) may be able to return it to it's former glory.
- The cushions are obviously not original, but are complete and require re-covering. The fabric was re-done around 15 years ago. I believe it was re-strapped around that time, but I suspect that it's due for re-doing again.
I remember seeing this lounge shortly after it was re-furbed the last time and can confirm that it looks great once the work has been put into it.
I'm in Western Sydney, so we'd probably have to work out some sort of contactless or minimal contact handover, details to be arranged with the saint who puts up their hand to rescue this piece.

The eternal optimist in me is hoping that a bump may help this lounge find a new home...
