Default Free Beefy PC Case Project - BYO angle grinder and sweat

Hi all, I have a Juniper NSMXpress 2RU unit that hopefully someone may be able to use, it seems a shame to scrap a unit like this.

This is a heavily modified PC used for networking, and as such the motherboard itself is useless for any other purpose.

I intended to fit a Mini-ITX motherboard with onboard video and use it as a CNC PC, but since I already use a server (and are too lazy to fix what ain't broke) I have no need for it.

The unit is standard 2RU, so approx 450 x 450 x 90. It has two rear fans, a working 280W standard ATX PSU, and I can't be too sure but from the looks I think the base will take a micro-ATX and Mini-ITX, but you may need to add a couple of mounts if the screws don't line up. Trivial really.

The main issue is you would need a M/B with onboard video (as any expansion slots are blocked by the HDD cage), and you'd need to cut out the rectangle for the M/Boards I/O cover plate, again trivial with a file and angle grinder. You could even remove the rear fan cage and mount the I/O ports to the rear with a plastic panel. This would the allow you to use a M/B with a video card.

The really neat thing about this unit is it has a 2 disk SATA cage with externally removable drive caddies, so you can RAID the disks for redundancy, and although I only have one PSU, it also caters for redundant PSU's, these units go for bugger all on Ebay so you should be able to pick up a second PSU for max reliability.

Pickup (ONLY) in Hawthorn during work hours, or near Mulgrave weekend/after hours.
