Vintage metal lathe - mini - free
Hi. Anyone want a 1914 Drummond Type A 4 inch round bed lathe. Free. Pick up from Central Coast about 1.5 hrs from Sydney.
No motor and missing screw-cutting gears but otherwise complete (to best of my knowledge). Includes a spare chuck. Everything appears to spin and slide and screw as it should.
The history of this lathe is to my knowledge that it was was made in 1914, probably originally powered by a treadle. It was fitted to a destroyer ( Drummond had a contract with the Admiralty). After the 2nd world war the destroyer was decommissioned, in Australia by now, and the lathe spent many years on a station in the NT. Then it was off to a farm in Mudgee for another decade or two, and then to the Central Coast where it sat rarely used in a suburban garage for another decade or two. When that person moved he gave it to me, in 2018, and ever since I have had it unused in storage, wanting to set it up, but finally admitting it is never going to happen.
When I was given it, it had an odd motor attached which I was told was AC and DC and was off the destroyer - but I left it behind for electrical safety reasons.

Yes, I should have said. It’s only 800 long but very heavy so pick up only.

I'm in the right state, although not very close but I'd love to take this piece of history on as a project. I'll take it thanks Arron.
PS - I'm unsure of my state of mind.
