Here are just a few of the 100 pens from David Mitchell, these are kits donated by the Ararat RSL and made by David and his mates from the Ararat Woodwork club. The pens are beautifully packages so I did not want to disturb them. There are 100 pens in total

Unfortunately I did not get mine done for xmas, should have done them before going o/s. I should have learnt by now that retirement from the mainstream work force does not necessarily equate to more shed time. Especially disappointed as my younger brother is currently on his second tour there, what a nice coincidence if a pen of mine had found him. Anyway I will get started on having them ready for the next lot.
A great job by all those involved, a superb effort, and special acknowledgement to you Sam for taking it on again and making it the success it is, cheers, Des

many thanks Des, you are not the only one that retired and found he had no time. There is always next time so don't fret too much and hopefully your brother will get one of those already sent. If he does not let me know and I will organise one for him.
Another two boxes were sent yesterday making the weight total of 13kg and well in excess of 300 pens thanks you all very much
Attached is a letter Amos has just received

Thank you from an Airman
I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, and, I was given one of your beautiful pens. I just want to let you know it gets used on operations and every time I look at it, I'm reminded of home. The timber takes me to the bush back home, and gives me hope that I'm doing the right thing over here. So thank you.
Im employed to RAAF bomb disposal and my home unit is 2 Airfield Defence Squadron, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight. If I ever get the chance to stop in at Ararat RSL, I'll be sure to try and meet someone from the Pen Turning section and spin em over a schooner or two.
Kindest regards.
