I received two emails last night, below is a partial copy of the emails
Congratulations to you all
Email1
Bruce and Jan-Maree,
I have been deployed on combat
operations collectively for close to two years of my military career. On
each of my deployments there has been small gestures performed from people
back home that have made me thankful and proud to be doing what we are asked
to do. None more so however, than the time taken by both of you and your
teams. Today I received in the one shipment some Australian biscuits, some
laundry bags, ANZAC cookies and the Pens. I will give out the pens to our
Aussies serving here and the extra six to our US colleagues who as you are
aware have suffered a number of losses recently. I will pick three very
lucky and special Americans to give the laundry bags to and just know that
they will be absolutely thrilled and honored. The ANZAC cookies have
already been shared with our US friends who love them.
Your handwritten messages mean as much and are proof to me that there are
Aussies out there who do get what our young men and women are doing over
here and for them those messages are so important. I have come to realise
in the past few years that there are some truly great Aussies out there
looking out for the welfare of our service men and women. The health,
welfare and well being of our current serving members and veterans is so
important and I am very much humbled by the community efforts that I have
seen as the president of a sub branch and from being the recipient of
multiple care packages since being deployed in January. I will come home
invigorated to ensure that my Avalon Sub Branch maintains its focus on
nurturing the living, healing the wounded and honoring the dead.
On behalf of us all in this part of the world I thank you for your gifts and
most importantly your spirit of community and concern that most definitely
makes the world of difference to us.

Hello Bruce,
By way of intro, I'm an Australian Army officer currently serving in Kabul, Afghanistan with the NATO Special Operations Command. I'm also the recipient of one of the 25 pens you recently dispatched to us. I'd just like to express my thanks at your gesture and let you know It is very much appreciated. Could I also ask you to pass on a personal thanks to Mik Lawrence, the creator of the pen I received, and please let him know I think it's a cracking gift!!
Once again, thank you for your gesture and please pass on my thanks to all involved in crafting the pens you send across.
Kindest regards, Mick
PS: The irony of thanking you by way of email as opposed to a written letter isn't lost on me - so I'll apologize for that! Haha.
