I'm still gobsmacked that such a small keel could provide adequate resistance to leeway.

Same for me AJ! It is tiny.
The boat is easily driven, being based on an International 14 with the standard 150sq ft of sail but stretched out above the waterline to 20ft. Very nice hull that doesn't slow too much. Several quick tacks would probably see the keel stall, but sailed to keep speed up and it works nicely.
The story is that Uffa Fox thought of the boat while having a bath.
