Cost
Looked into it, average 3 x the cost for a used vessel, thanks to the current and previous governments and AQIS and last but very least the Maritime union and their associates.....all a bunch of ******************************************** (my secret glyph code so I dont get prosectuted!!!!). One gentleman who has had a vast amount of pain from this process stated "take your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ex-wives roll them into one and thats how much they will take from you....."
Oh, but you don't have to pay duty on vessels 100 tons and over....ahhh...the government is sooooooooooo generous

I know nothing about boats, but this one caught my eye and curiosity.
Could you sail it across? What would the cost be if you "just turned up" with it to get it registered here (if that's even necessary)? Maybe you could register it in Panama en route - seems that from adventure novels I've read people do that fo some reason.

Just turn up....
I will emphatically state you would be in a world of S***. Fines at the yazoo. You don't just show up with a registered vessel from another country and expect it to be registered here . But the laws are completely different if your just visiting. Trust me; my wife and I thought seriously about this; we decided on getting her but then read and researched the red tape, Have a look for yourself. Aqis and Maritime charge by the half hour for inspection and cleaning alone......Do the research before considering anything like this....oh and don't go thinking you can get a cheap boat in the states and try to get around it that way......#1..Shipping to Sydney.....Container ships that ship these type of goods, do so from the east cost of the states....so it sucks to be you if you bought it in California.....I know this sounds a bit out there but like I said do the research.......

Oh, I'm not thinking of acutally DOING something like that! In fact the closest thing I ever got to maritime anything was my voyage to Australia as a 19 year old (41 years ago) assisted migrant on the SS Australis - along with 2500 other immigrants. I enjoyed the 5 week voyage.
Oh, and I have a 1950s 9' tinnie with a 1.5HP (when new) British Enzani outboard
That's as close as I'll ever get.
But I liked looking at your dream!
Sorry to hear it's much more difficult to realise than I could ever imagine.
It looks like a very nice vessel!
