Default Wanted: Old river boat to rescue/restore in SA

    Hi All,
I am new here, so please be tolerant if this is in the wrong place.

I need a project and would love to restore or rescue an old wooden river cruiser, for use on the Murray. I would need it to be a weekender, so room for a bed and a meals area.

I was thinking 25-30 foot. I am hoping it is free, but it has to be a 'reasonable' starter. I have already found enough boats that floated 'last time they were in the water' and just need a paint and a few planks replacing, but which in reality have all the fastenings loose and half the planks rotten or all of the ribs broken... I don't need to see any more that have been outside on the hard for the last 20 years

Alternatively, I would be happy to take over a project (old or new) that hasn't ever gotten finished.

I am happy to travel a bit to find the right boat, but if it is already in SA, then that makes things easier.

i am quite handy and experienced with wood, just not boats. Yes I know it would be far more economical to spend $20K and buy one that is already restored, but that is not an option.

I guess you contact me via clicking on the usual things?

    Thanks, Erik

Default Smaller search - upcycling some ruins!

    Hi All,
we are looking at something smaller: if you have an old small boat (up to 6m length) that needs to be upcycled, please get in touch. The project is to travel fro several weeks down the Murray in a recycled boat meeting people and talking about the way we deal with water in all its ways. We are doing two similar projects in Austria/Slovakia /Hungary/Croatia/Serbia and in Belgium next year, the first upcycled old boat can be seen here:

The Subak sails! « Times Up Boating Association

The build will happen in late January, the trip through the first weeks of February, we will be in the Fringe Parade (the boat gets wheels and a pedal drive from some mad friends at the Adelaide Hackerspace).

I hope we can help get rid of something on the verge of rotting in a backyard. Old sails to cut down to a junk sail, a pole mast and any other gear are also welcome!

Looking forward to hearing from people,

    Tim
