Cheers Waldo - I really wanted to get my welding bench and dust extraction setup before I made the truss but things are getting a little urgent because I need to join and seal up the two sheds before winter really comes - I had a few leaks when the previous cold front cam through and it it bucketed down from the wrong direction I could have a bit of a flood.

Yeah Bob, notice that you have one of those allie ladders with the platform only a few steps high and the plastic dooverbug top with the little cups etc....I've got one too and wouldn't part with it for quids............best amd most convenient providing you don't need to climb into the clads.
As for the rest, yep, sure is a bit cluttered and???????????????
Nothin' that a good blast of air from the compressor can't partly deal with though

Completed the 4 m long Truss today.
The truss is needed to create a totally open space between the old and new shed.
First step was to level the roof of the old shed (one of the corners had slumped.)
Here was the situation just after the new shed was built showing the planned skylight like gap between the roofs of the two sheds.
The gap on the LHS was 120 mm wider than the gap on the RHS.

As I said in a previous post I Jacked the roof up of the old shed and added spaces to the posts and welded them in place.

Now the gap width is even. Post P is the target post to get rid of so I have a completely open space between the sheds and why I need the truss.
The 76 x 38 mm RHS nposts and a lintels are temporary supports for the roof of the old shed while I install the truss - I have to clamber up on to the roof of the old shed to install the truss. Given the truss will, once installed, hold both roofs up ,the posts and lintel were going to just be a temporary measure but I will just leave these there for extra strength.
Here the completed truss with a lick o drying paint.

Hopefully my son will come and help me put it in tomorrow.Last edited by BobL; 1st October 2019 at 07:18 PM.

Looking good...Funny how those old sheds tend to drop and lean.
That truss should hold almost anything; looks well engineered and would likely be a good place to hange a block and tackle from
BTW the dusty looks brand new...as I am going to have to get something along those lines WHEN said shed is up and looking like running, maybe you could tell me more about that partic one and a couple of pics?

Yeah nothing is square on it. It would have been kinder to gut the whole thing and start again but it's too late now.

It's going to go out the back of the shed in its own enclosure to replace the tired and gutless 1 HP unit I have been using since 2006. I have since bought 2 x 2HP DC but have taken both of those to the milling yard.

Are you going to leave the clear covering between the two shed for natural light, maybe even a vent for summer?

Truss is in.
Well after some puffing and panting and breaking a 1/2" drill bit my son and I managed to get the truss in. We were able to line up 3 of the 6 bolt holes but had to re-drill the other 3. 2 of the re-drills were no problem but one had limited access for the drill and I could only go in at an angle - crept up on the final hole size with a 1/4. 5/16, 3/8 bits but the 1/2" bit just went SNAP!
It's hard to see it amongst all that steel but here it is (blue arrow).

The fat blue line is where the mid-line support post use to be. Just to test the beam I hung of it and it did not even flex.
I then took a 360º panorama from where the support post use to be.Last edited by BobL; 1st October 2019 at 07:17 PM.

Mucho space there now mate.....even for the kettle and toaster!!
Just looking, it goes without saying that the space you have/create is never enough

A back door.
Having a week off doesn't mean all that much in my job - the tasks just pile up and I have to deal with them when I get back which I why I haven't really reported anything this week.
I spent all day today making a door frame and fitting a new back door to the old section of the shed. I'm going have my compressor and DC, and I will also store some materials out the back so I want to be able to reach those without walking through the garden.
Old shed wall is totally out of square hence it was quite challenging to stay square in a surround of wonkiness.
Anyway here it is.
backdoor.jpg
Door itself is a frame of 25 x 25 x 2.5 SHS and colorbond cladding (one of the 14 sheets of colorbond left behind by the friendly shed builders). The frame is from my endless supply of free 76 x 38 x 1.6 RHS. Hinges handles and lock from my bottomless box of used fixtures fittings - I even found a classy brass door handle in there all green and gooey but it buffed up real noice. Overall cost is about $50, quite reasonable I guess.
Next jobs are the outdoor housings for the DC and compressor. But I'm going away for 5 weeks so Nothing much will be happening for a while.Last edited by BobL; 1st October 2019 at 07:20 PM.
