Work and life have been getting in the way lately but started carving up the chest freezer for donor sheet metal. Currently sheltering inside due to an incoming storm 😠

Hoping it clears soon so I can finish with the freezer and then get the last cuts made on the jointer cabinet. Then I'm going to start mocking up the new chute with stiff cardboard and gaffer tape.

Checked the forecast and this storm isn't going anywhere, quickly went and knocked out another side of the freezer and I'll call it a day. Getting the Armadillo face shield has made such a huge difference, I'm getting a lot better with the cutting discs now that I can see properly.

Popped the jointer badge in some acetone to get it back to bare metal, still needs a proper clean but came up surprisingly nice with a quick polish. Still working out how I'm going to apply the paint, pretty sure my mum has an airbrush though and if so I'll likely use that.

Picking up my brother in law's MIG welder tomorrow evening so I'm going to spend some time practicing this weekend. Hopefully that way I won't suck too badly when I do the cabinet, most of the work is inside but theres the external vent which has the potential for hilarity.

Finished cutting up the freezer and hogging out most of the material from the jointer cabinet last night. Have a pretty good idea how I want everything to work now so I'll have a cardboard chute made up over the next few evenings.

Looking at the vent I'd picked out and I don't like how much space it takes up, going to go back to Bunnings tonight and take another look around. Need to be careful of how much extra space I'm using inside the cabinet, still need to fit the motor and VFD.

Yeah I was kind of blown away once I spent a minute polishing it, they clearly put a lot of effort into making it to a very high quality.

If I had room I would take it, guess I will have to settle for my woodfast combo rather than separate machines

MIG welder acquired! Borrowed it off my brother in law, luckily I'd buttered him up by rescuing a 1TB hard drive he'd accidentally formatted a while back. Looking forward to having a play tomorrow, always thought welding would be a really useful skill.

Picked up a welders jacket and gloves today as well, just need to buy some hollow square tube so I have some practice material. Probably going to try making a small welding tabletop that I can drop on top of my saw horses. Was tossing up buying a folding welding table (on special for $129 from Machinery House atm) but I think my cheapness will win out with the other expenses for this machine fast approaching.

    Bueller

Not sure if you have done any Mig welding before, but just in case, remember to push the handpiece towards the weld unlike the stick welder, which is drawn away from the weld.

Oh yes, and try to avoid getting any hot stuff down your boots. It will be molten metal, not slag, and much hotter!

    Regards

Cheers mate, will remember that. This will be my first foray into any sort of welding so I've been watching a ton of videos and will spend this weekend getting some practice before tackling the cabinet. Got all the PPE ready to go and will have good pair of jeans over the top of some steel toes so should be pretty safe albeit a bit sweaty.
