Default Someone else likes my shed

    Hi,
Discovered a shed guest today. Heard a sneeze and there it was having a groom up on the top shelf.
Did not seem put out by people at all. Just tucked it's head down and went back to sleep. As I can't charge him rent I better make him a possum box.
    Regards
    John

A piddle-proof possum box would be the go.

The box will be half ways up a tree. Dont want the rest of his family moving into my shed too. I know how hard it is to get a paw on the property ladder so he will have somewhere else move into after eviction. Then I'll have to make sure I shut the shed window every evening.

He's been evicted from somebody else's tiled roof by the look of it. We used to have a possum that lifted the tiles with his nose to get in and he also had that telltale scab at the bridge of his nose where the rough terracotta tiles scraped away skin.

I was sweeping the floor at the time.
The machines are in the garage so that shed is hand tool work and some hand sanding. Anyhow in the interests of the local wildlife I will review the dust issues.

Perhaps he is a possum that likes something better than a hole in a tree. He was looking kinda pleased with himself as the cold rain hammered down on the roof. Anyhow soon as I make a box and hang it in a tree then the window will no longer be open. As to shed ownership he looks you right in the eye then goes back to sleep. Got the attitude of the godfather.

Latest is he has moved on. Must have been just couch surfing. I'll still build that possum box however.

Ah well, looks like you won't be having possum pie in the near future John.

Thats not as far fetched as it sounds. In some places they are reckoned to be tasty varmints.

Well an update with what my shed visitor is doing since the eviction. Moved up the property ladder a bit and enjoying room service. The best way to get ole poss to pose for the camera is some carrot. I made 2 boxes and gave the other one to the folks next door as we have quite a few possums around. Not hearing them trying to lift the roof tiles any more.

Not sure if I am really really annoyed at the possum for abandoning his new home and letting the bees take over, or be (slightly) sympathetic that he got evicted from his new home.
Not happy either way that he broke into his old digs...

That's something I never would have forseen. Never gave a thought to what other critters may like a nice box to live in.
Well you can have free honey now or there are bee keepers that can take them away for you. Some even advertise on gumtree.

    Yes, looking for someone..
One friend ended up in hospital a bit after looking, with heart surgery, so he's now not allowed to climb a ladder..
