Got a nice score today
Today I moseyed on down to Bowerbird to look for some messmate that I could use for my bench-top and after a chat with Tim, he showed me some nice messmate which would have done the job but was a smidgen thinner then I would have liked.
Then Tim remembered that he had a small pack of Yellowbox that he had pulled out the previous week that had been air drying for at least 2yrs and wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do with. So we checked it with the Moisture Meter and it was 10-12% and I said yep she'll do, how much.
After a quick measure to find that there was a little under half a cube and quick calculation, I came home with the pack for $180
Most of it is 3" x 2" with a few 6" x 2" & 4" x 2" as well.
This is the pack in the shed now

That'll make a good looking bench DJ, good price too
Oh BTW, don't know how you embed those pictures, but at first they only showed as an underlined text link (similar to my previous finding, see above). When I clicked on one of the links I was asked to log in (Iwas logged in!) When I did. the picture showed, closed picture down, came back to the post, guess what, all 3 thumbnails were there, text links had disappeared!
So how do you put those thumbnails there?

BS after I have uploaded to pictures to the forum, I use the from the menu in the section, you can then put the pictures wherever you want them.
I think what's happening is that you are signed on the woodworkforum.ubeaut.com.au address whilst I am signed in on the woodworkforum.com address. Can you confirm thisCheers

G'day Dj,
So does this mean we get a WIP on your bench? Never seen Messmate, but that second shot
Had a look at the Bowerbird website and I saw a shot of some bloke standing against a massive hunk of red gum that looked real familiar.

G'day Dj,
Aah, yellow box - don't you have a stack of that hiding somewhere?

Waldo, if you want to see some nice furniture made with Messmate, The Woodshed Gallery in Daylesford (21a Raglan St on the Trentham side his name is Gerard Bugden). He works mainly with Blackwood, Messmate, Manna Gum and Redgum, He often combines two timbers in tabletops etc. The gallery itself is worth a vist, there is a big glass partition to the workshop.
We sometimes go down there on a Sunday for the Daylesford Market at the Railway Station
Nice Sunday drive, then watch the yuppies parade around Daylesford in their Toorak tractors!
