The H&F TS cabinet has a some vents cut into the side of the removable section of the cabinet that covers the motor but so many slivers of wood get down between the blade and throat plate and block the 100 mm port, that every week we have to open up the saw base and unclog the dust port.
    Thanks Bob.
Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Chris Parks' lair. His solution to the 'sliver' problem seems to work very well in spite of my initial doubts (substitute rolling around hysterically on the floor when first told ?).
Basically he has installed a 'trap' where the slivers are unable to make a rapid turn whereas the dust-laden air can. This leaves the slivers isolated and accessible without disrupting the airflow. Very clever!

All done, the adaptor is now fixed, but removable for clearing...

The box/door/motor housing ( ) originally had venting on the far side so I am going to leave the 100mm outlet (pic 2 above) as is, because it is fitted with a gate and I will use it to test dust collection performance at different openings to simulate the original fixed venting. This original venting was 'lost' when I fitted my original 150mm outlet which has now been replaced by a blanking plate...

    image.jpg

If I find that I need to reinstate the venting and/or the venting must be on this side, Bunnings have a range of fixed vents that I could use .... starting at $9.50!

I am now about to start cutting a LARGE cutting list of sapele and ARC, an operation that previously left me and my shed looking like we had been mining by hand in the Pilbarra! Many thanks to my forum glitterati mates who helped me carry the sapele to the shed last Saturday. The big plank took 4 men !
Many thanks also to my supplier of electrical conduit fittings, I won't embarrass him by naming him nor by pointing arrows.....

(Unfortunately?) I've only got a JET, generic style, 2hp DC with a plastic bag collector and pleated filter. I have opened up the inlet side of the impeller to take a 150mm duct + bell housing (~180mm diam) which did improve performance BUT there is only a 125mm diameter flexi connection from the outlet side of the impellor to the filter. Even when I get 150mm connections to all machines the system limitation will remain that 125mm connection AND the length of some of my runs.
I lust after a larger (at least) 3hp DC but that could be some time off yet. I am however doing a lot towards that target including beefing up the power supply to the shed, making 150mm connections to all large machines and building the acoustic cubicle big enough to take a Clearvue.

    Thanks Fletty,
My dusty is at your stage _ 150mm inlet and 125mm outlet to filter. In the process of modifying the outlet and separator to see if it makes and great difference.

Outlet is half done, hope to finish this week.

    IMG_0521.jpg

Main challenge will be the inlet to the separator.

Oh! Oh! I had thought. When you play with your "inlet" blast gate opening you could in addition, or instead of, crack the box door in small increments to see what effect additional air or air from a different direction has on the collection inside the saw.

So far, with the door/motor cover box sealed and the 100mm gate valve closed, chips are collecting in the bottom of extension box even though the main chamber is clean. With the gate valve fully open, that airflow cleans the bottom of the motor box but the main chamber isn't as clean. Hopefully, there will be some position in between where both are clean?

For those visiting forumites and veteran wood turners who have complained about the extreme sport nature of the access to my shed, my barter system excavator operator turned up today and spread the fill he had dropped off last year....

    image.jpg image.jpg

The climb is the same height but it's over a longer distance!

Apparently he he has another job nearby next week and this job will result in several loads of topsoil which should finish off my project?
Whan I see new roads being built and landscaped, dirt banks appear to be sprayed with what appears to be a mix of a stabiliser, seed and fertiliser. Does anyone know if this magic elixir is available to us mere mortals?
