Yes, you'd be surprised what a visit to a plumbing store like Reece will turn up fletty.

ACTUALLY, I went into the local Reece (Smeaton Grange) a few weeks ago, told them that I was just a humble woodworker who knew nothing of the magic and folklore of plumbing but needed help. Within a few minutes they were laying out 150mm PVC pipe and fittings on the floor to match my beer coaster sketch. They were just so helpful!

Beer coaster sketches have a significant heritage in science
One of the experiments selected to be conducted during the first moon landing was designed on a beer coaster by an Aussie over a few drinks.

Yes, it's Reece I go to up here, and as you say, incredibly helpful. When I walk in these days it's "G'day Dusty". Heh Heh.

Default Who said men can't multi skill......?

Those of you who have been following this disfunctional thread, and build, will know that l set a date for the sharpening GTG to make sure that the build and reorganisation didn't go on forever. Well, the GTG is in 9 days and so I've had to resort to multi-skilling (and lowering a few targets!) to get there.
    The latest 2 milestones are
    • The DC sound proof enclosure is externally complete but still needs more acoustic batts, a muffler for the external exhaust and bypassing the NVR switch so that the remote can turn it ON as well as OFF!

    image.jpeg

    • The antique Chinese mahjong table and 3 (?) chairs that had been stored in the shed had to be cleaned up before they could be moved into the house. They were covered in several millimetre thick dust accumulated over the last 20 years of poor, or no, dust collecting while wood working. They responded well to a heavy vacuum, wipe down with rags soaked in mineral turps (mineral turps doesn't dissolve the traditional Chinese shellac finish) and a polish with orange oil

    image.jpeg image.jpg image.jpeg

The next stage is making benches for all of the different sharpening processes, more reorganisation and cleaning up and, if there is time, get the DC system to level 2+ if not level 3.
Those who are staying overnight for the GTG may yet find themselves cutting the grass on the day!

As you know I was intrigued by the dedicated mahjong table. What makes it specifically for mahjong? I will take a wild guess and suggest that what looks like a small drawer at the front contains the tiles.

Absolutely spot on my learned friend......

... now I know why you get paid the big bucks ?
There's a drawer for each player but, other than that, it is an absolutely standard Chinese table in construction and size.

Alan that is some progress you have made..........my own frustrations trying as hard as I may ATM to achieve 1/10th of what you have.

Is there a missing chair? OR A WiP chair going to happen? OR is it he one already inside.

    Nice

Whilst I'd like to accept your generous comment as to my capabilities the fact is that the more wild guesses that are bandied around, the more likely is that one of them will come good. We don't talk at length about those that bounced multiple times on stony ground.

    Thanks Ray,
So far, the missing chair is a mystery! I'm sure there were 4 but.........?
I will certainly need a fourth chair if ever I want to sell the set but hopefully I will find it before I have to make one? My peony carving is far from competent.

Might need to speak to one of your Asian friends or a decent carver. OR now you have the room buy that CMC router carver

I have had similar experience with the Reece store in Albury in regards to the friendly service.

I find Reece very helpful but oh so expensive unless you buy at trade or something approaching it. The difference between Reece and my local independent plumbing supplier was about $10-12 a 150mm junction and they were just a helpful.
