Jonesy's Shed Build
Had to make a mini stud wall to go under the beams to attach the soffit to.

Started to line the soffits. Does anyone know if it’s worth putting vents in? I would be more inclined to put holes in rather than the modern day vents.
Cheers

In the old days, when most frames were green hardwood, a vented eave allowed the roof space to breathe, making it possible for the wringing wet roof timbers to season in situe. As your frame is steel, drying is not an issue.
As your roof is sarked and insulated any air coming in through the eaves would be directed below the sarking and into the roof space, which, in turn, would be sucked out at the ridge if the sarking is not continuous over the ridge. Otherwise, a ridge vent would need to be installed.
Without a vent at the ridge, the eave vents would do nothing.

Jonesy's Shed Build
Thanks Rusty.
The roof blanket is continuous over the ridge and is tucked down behind the fascia a little. So I guess not much air can get in between the roof sheeting and the top of the fascia either. The only place air can really enter is at the bottom of the gables.
Is there any need for vents then with the steel frame? All the soffit boxing is timber if it got wet from say the gutters overflowing or wind driven rain it wouldn’t really dry out to well.
Cheers

Soffits nearly done. Will install cover strips this weekend, then start painting.
You can see two clamps on the window sill, I am having problems with it bowing up. I think I will have to put some bolts though the centre to hold it down [emoji853]. Originally I left clearance on one side to allow for expansion but it still seemed to bow. The clamps have been on there for months now in a hope as it seasoned it may stay straight but I’m not hopeful. The bowing was bad enough that the windows wouldn’t fit.

Coming along nicely Alex. Pity it’s not cooling down much.

Loving the story/pics of this build. Such a breath of fresh air to see that whilst internally a steel frame structure the exterior has such a dramatic look. Can`t wait to see the internal fit-out.

Thanks guys. Yes the humidity has been a killer lately, finding the morning sessions the worst.
Funny you say that Oldgrain, I have had quite a few people comment on the current appearance saying it is some how appealing. This was unexpected. But unfortunately it won’t stay like this as it will all be painted soon enough.
Cheers

Well I have started painting. Is a shame to cover such nice timber but it has to be done.
Using a Taubmans system. Start with oil primer, then caulk weatherboard gaps and putty screw heads, followed by 3 coats of All Weather low sheen.
Using Polyfila W50 weatherboard caulking and Shelley’s Special putty. The W50 sets very quick as it is high solids, seems to have a fairly low shrinkage. Can only run a short bead though before wiping off or can run into trouble, my technique is far from perfect though.

Big weekend, got all 3 coats on the fascia, soffit and the front wall. Also primed the end wall.
Pretty happy so far. Gapping is well worth the effort, it leaves such a nice line on the weatherboards.
Had a little bleeding under the tape on the window sill, will touch up later.

Painting is done! Well the exterior anyway. Will start stripping the windows in the mean time.
