lining brick walls to prevent rust
SO I'm thinking of lining the brick walls of my workshop with plywood. firstly because i think it will look nice and provide an easy system for hanging tools but secondly because anything I hang on the wall rusts (outside facing wall) and I'm hoping this will cut down on rust.
Can anyone tell me if this will will help with rust?

You will need to seal the bricks to prevent moisture penetration if the wall is single skin.

Yep, definitely will need some sort of moisture barrier. How are you planning to attach the plywood, direct stick or furring strips or stud wall framing between piers?

Yeah I was going to direct screw some ply to the wall. Will the moisture barrier discolour the bricks? I need it to be unnoticeable if the ply is ever removed.

After building many sheds & houses with my father in Cyclone country in FNQ, I must admit I feel a bit insecure in a single skin red brick shed. Be cautious about how much weight you hang of that single skin wall.

Personally I wouldn't do it on an exterior wall. At a minimum, you could use building wrap against the brickwork, battens over that, and then fix your ply to the battens. That would provide an insulating air gap between the wrap and the ply. It's better if there's an air gap between the brickwork and the wrap as well.

A friend lined his shed with yellow tongue flooring. His argument was that it was cheaper than plywood and strong enough to hang tools directly.
No idea about it stopping water vapour, as not an issue.
Cheers
