Default Looking for ideas for a clamp rack- mobile.

Looking for any ideas to make a mobile clamp rack to take ALL the clamps, (there's a lot), vertical? horizontal on shelves? the sash clamps are particularly difficult, anyone had success? or any links to design pages?

    Thanks.

I was lucky enough when my wife's old company closed up shop I was able to get one of the mobile display racks from the store

Been on my to do list for many years. My clamps are scattered in dark corners and recesses so I have to hunt them out before a glueup. Be surprised the other things I find doing that.

Don't mean to be rude, but, seriously, just google "mobile clamp rack" You'll find more ideas than you know what to do with.

RB, I find that space is cramped enough without making it more so with mobile clamp racks, etc. As a result, I use wall spaces to house my clamps - spaces where nothing else can go. These must be accessible, so not behind anything.

Let me know if you want photos.

Here are my clamp racks. This is after 40 years of discarding crap and slowly building up decent clamps.

Tucked alongside a tool cabinet in a corner unused (mainly 600mm and 900mm Bessey parallel clamps, with a couple of 1200mm F clamps nearby)...

Tucked into a nook near the door (F clamps and Bessey/other quick clamps) ...

Rack on a cabinet above the grinder (300mm light Bessey/other parallel clamps) ...

    Hope this helps.

    Regards from Perth

It does not need to cost much to get going. I have been building furniture for 4 decades. The nice Besseys were only purchased over the past 6 or 7 years, and only about 2 or 3 at a time. Look for specials at wood shows. I got by with cheap F-clamps and cheap quick clamps from Bunnings (still have them - in the second photo). They do the job when one needs them. I had heavy iron sash clamps and gave them away when I began buying the panel clamps. The Besseys are great, also heavy but easier to move around, and only for furniture. Boxes and small stuff are best clamped with the 12" light panel clamps, and the Chinese (in red) were purchased cheaply off Banggood. They are a copy of the Bessey, and I think I prefer them.

Much of the panels I glue up is done with blue tape! Clamps are not needed. Similarly, when you do traditional joinery, often clamps are unnecessary: M&T joints are draw bored, and drawers and cases are dovetailed.

Thanks for the explanation Derek (and welcome back by the way!)

The comment was meant in jest, although I do need to consider my clamping options with my list of projects building up.

Currently I'm making do with 4 small Irwin quick clamps, 2 larger ones, plus 5 large pipe clamps.

I've made do so far but with my first real furniture project coming up In considering options.

The light panel clamps sound interesting.

    Regards,

    Adam

Also clamps do wear out. I've got a few old 2nd hand F types as well as a couple of cheap sash clamps originally bought new that now have worn out parts. Plan for additions and replacements.

I'm planning to use a comprehensive french cleat setup in my new workshop that will allow me to move storage around until I get it right.
