    Shoe boxes!!

Shoe stores give them away. Some are excellent... blank, strong, with a fold up lid or slide out.

They are big enough to be useful for things like screws without it getting crazy heavy.

I've also tried (and use) the boxes from Ikea. They are excellent. Most durable. They look neat in my wardrobe.... SWMBO doesnt get upset that my tools cohabitate with her shoes

I use the Tactix storage systems; I have a couple of the older ute/van storage units. One has drawers with each one containing a 450mm by 300mm by 100m case (each one of those has 12 tubs inside); the other has 5 of the 300mm double sided storage cases. All my screws are grouped by type and application; eg one of the double sided cases is full of HD galvanised screws. Ones side for woodscrews, the other side for tekscrews. They are shown HERE; mine are the B and C and they are mounted on top of each other. If you wanted real portability you could bolt them onto dollies so you could wheel them around.

Oh; the locking flap thingys will annoy you but it only takes a few seconds to drill out the pop rivets holding them

Chief those I like, where did you buy from and what price from memory.

I know I should be using my cabinet making (lack of) skills, but this shed change over renovation is starting to p*ss me off its taking so long, and so many other things pop up as well.
so my wise thinking says just get everything sorted NEATLY as quick as possible then you can go back and start quality stuff.

They came from Bunnings about 4 years ago. They were a runout item as they weren’t selling; I think I paid about $200 for the pair but it wouldn’t surprise me if their normal price was about $250 each.
I also have several of the individual cases for things like dowels, Kreg gear, electronics, hooks etc. These are also sold at Bunnies and it’s quite easy to knock up a cabinet to hold them. The smaller cases have a convenient lip that can allow them to be slid into slots in a case; no shelves needed.

I have various Tactix boxes and sets of small plastic drawers, but the photos below show my preference for seeing/accessing small things. The large drawer unit is a document or map drawer. Far less endless sliding drawers in and out to find things= this drives me nut.
The small plastic containers come from the various sets of small drawers I used to have.
Plastic cutlery trays are also very handy

    This drawer has metrics

I have a weird mix of storage boxes compartment trays and other stuff and nearly all of it frustrates me in some way

So as part of my own garage remodel and fit out all small parts storage is moving into draws with 3D printed trays designed to a base 50x50 grid size and used inside drawers.

    _M032787.jpg

The sizes in the drawer above are
    50x50, 50x75, 50x100, 50x150, 100x100
    All are 60mm high

These sizes have covered most of the requirements so far

I still use flip out wall mounted bins for 4,6,8 gauge screws and other constantly used items and the larger packets, boxes like on the bench end up on shelving in storage cupboards

There is no perfect solution just one that at the time minimises the effort to implement and the frustrations in using.
