    Default In a Quandry.

I have a 6x6 shed at the back of which I have installed 2x500l tanks.

I want to make more room to store my timber and a few other bits like, perhaps a ride on mower.

In many ways the easiest option is to extend the shed rear ward by taking the tanks and placing them
at right angles to where they are along the fence. I already have a pad on which the tanks sit so laying
a slab there will be easy enough. The removed fill could be taken and used as fill under a new tank pad.
This idea gives me an extension of 6x2.4 metres and easy access from one end. I also have power very
    close at hand for lighting.

To take this road involves using another portal frame, top hats and more sheeting at about $3250 for all
the iron including a roll up door. Concrete is about another $500. To reduce costs I could use fibro,
    but it would look tacky.

The other option is to build a shed along the fence instead of moving the tanks. This would be less expensive
but only with a lot more work and using cheaper materials. The shed would also be smaller by some margin at
at 6mx2m. A lot more work is needed to set up the slab and power is not handy.

Another option is get 2x10m2 sheds and put them together but according to council I need a 500mm gap between
them. I guess I could use the 500mm gap as a defacto extension.

Best do dome more costing and thinking.

Yeh 10m2 is the limit to covered area not needing approval. As soon as you out them together or join them to the existing shed you need approval as it is based on roof area.

If you don't want to pay for approvals the smaller sheds are the way to go, otherwise I'd extend you shed by adding extra portals, you could even leave tanks where they are and just extend over them and modify piping

Trouble is Neil that the septic is quite near the existing tank pad.

That'll be OK, as long as you don't plumb into the wrong tank
